The Atlanta Hawks have opened up a six game lead in the Eastern Conference Standings.

The Atlanta Hawks have won 14 straight games and a remarkable 28 of their last 30 dating back to Thanksgiving. At 35-8, they are threatening to run away from the pack in the Eastern Conference. Atlanta picked up a game in the standings Wednesday night after they defeated the Indiana Pacers at Philips Arena. Second place Washington suffered a 105-103 loss to Oklahoma City while third place Toronto fell 92-86 in Memphis.

Washington has gone 7-3 over their last 10 games to keep the Hawks within sight but Toronto has lost seven of 10 to fall 7.5 games back. The Chicago Bulls are currently fourth but have lost two straight and six of 10 and now have questions surrounding their head coach Tom Thibodeau. Besides Atlanta, the Cleveland Cavaliers have the longest winning streak in the East having won four straight but at 23-20 are 12 games back of Atlanta.

Charlotte has won eight of its last 10 games and has pulled with a half game of eighth place in the Eastern Conference. Detroit is also continues to surge after jettisoning Josh Smith and are a 1.5 games out of a potential playoff spot.

Here is a look at the East Standings entering play on Thursday:

The Atlanta Hawks equaled the franchise record with their 14th consecutive win with a blowout victory over the Indiana Pacers.

The Atlanta Hawks led wire-to-wire on Wednesday dispatching the Indiana Pacers 110-91 to tie the franchise record with 14 consecutive wins. The win also clinched a spot for Mike Budenholzer and his coaching staff in New York to coach the Eastern Conference All-Stars at the 2015 NBA All-Star Game.

Still this team is not about individual accolades and they are sheepishly shy about discussing such. With Wednesday's win as an example, go up and down the roster and you see a variety of contributions. All 12 players who dressed scored. Atlanta shot 50 percent from the field in the game. They knocked down 13 three-pointers and recorded 30 assists on 39 made field goals. The Hawks finished with 110 points yet no individual player had more than 17.

Defensively they held the Pacers to just 39 percent shooting. They were active with 12 steals and forced Indiana into 18 turnovers. They also ended the game with a 43-42 rebounding edge over a much bigger Indiana front line.

Perhaps no single play represents this game as well as DeMarre Carroll getting a deflection and diving on the floor to secure the loose ball with the Hawks leading 78-53 late in the third quarter.

"In the third quarter, there were several plays where our defense led to some transition opportunities and different guys making shots," said Budenholzer following the game. "Obviously, Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague hit a three, and DeMarre Carroll, his play tonight, whether it was making three's, making assists or diving on the ball with four minutes to go and a decent lead, he's still laying it out there. DeMarre is a big part of us; a big part of our spirit, kind of symbolic of how competitive we want our group to be, no matter what the score is. I love his effort from both ends of the court. It fuels his group, and everybody feeds off of it."

Carroll's enthusiasm and grit is contagious and you can see his teammates feed off of it. He tied for the team lead with 17 points against the Pacers to go along with four assists and four steals.

We just have to do the little things to be a good team," said Jeff Teague. Plays like that from DeMarre today, that's what we have to do to be successful."

Korver, Antic dunks provide highlight plays for the Hawks

Typically, the Hawks aren't the team that is going to provide tons of highlight plays that dominate the airways unless you are a basketball purist who loves to watch good ball movement. However, they provided a couple of highlight plays with a pair of big dunks from two unlikely sources.

Kyle Korver nearly broke Twitter when he finished the break with a one-hand slam early in the second quarter.

One of the most impressive parts of Korver's dunk was that it was Atlanta's center Al Horford who pushed the ball up the floor and delivered a pinpoint pass to Korver. Apparently that dunk also earned Korver $100 from teammate Elton Brand.

Later in the game, it Pero Antic's turn to get in on the fun. Late in the third quarter, Pero pump fakes his way past David West and finishes a two-hand jam much to the delight of the Hawks' bench.

During the previous timeout, the Hawks had shown a video tribute to Dominique Wilkins and Pero joked after the game that it had inspired him.

"After the Dominique Wilkins video, I had to dunk," Antic said. "Something was wrong today. We don't dunk a lot, so when we can we go 100 percent."

The Atlanta Hawks continued their incredible run of positive play on Wednesday, outlasting the Indiana Pacers by a final score of 110-91 to match the franchise record with 14 consecutive victories.

Franchise records are nothing to scoff at, and the Atlanta Hawks matched one on Wednesday evening. The Hawks took on an undermanned Indiana Pacers team and, for the most part, they executed on a phenomenal level, dominating throughout to the point where the visitors never once held the lead. When the clock went to triple-zeroes, the Hawks had won 14 consecutive games, and this particular contest was decided by a final score of 110-91.

Early on, the Hawks were executing on both ends, but they couldn't seem to build a lead and sustain it for a long period of time. Atlanta raced to two separate 7-0 runs in the first quarter, leading by as many as ten points, but Indiana stayed within striking distance despite never taking the lead during the 12-minute period. It was a balanced period with six plays scoring 3 or more points (led by Thabo Sefolosha with 6), but the visitors remained within four points at 25-21.

Much like the first quarter, the Hawks put together another strong run to begin the second quarter, but this one was different. Atlanta outscored Indiana by a 14-2 margin in the early going, and in the midst of that onslaught, Kyle Korver (yes, Kyle Korver) threw down a fast-break dunk. Naturally, this sent the entire arena (and particularly press row) into a frenzy never before seen, and when that was followed by an Al Horford bucket, the home team led by 14 points.

The Pacers would rally at times as the second quarter continued, but Atlanta led by as many as 15 points before settling on a 10-point margin at the half. It wasn't a flawless half from the Hawks, but balance was certainly at the forefront. All 10 players that appeared scored before the break, and the team was led by Al Horford and Thabo Sefolosha with only eight points each. Of course, holding the opposition to just 41% from the field and 33% from three helps, but grabbing a double-digit halftime lead without a standout individual performance is always encouraging.

Sometimes, the halftime break is a detriment to a team that is playing well. This was not one of those times.

Atlanta scored a staggering 36 points in the third quarter, including a 26-10 run out of the gate that lengthened the lead to 27 points in a hurry. Both DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague scored 10 points in the first seven minutes of the period, and when all was said and done, the Hawks were shooting 54% from the field overall and 12-for-24 from three-point range through three quarters. The lead was 88-64, the starters were chilling on the bench just steps from Mike Budenholzer, and that was virtually that.

Indiana started the fourth quarter in strong fashion, slashing the lead to 17 points and forcing Budenholzer to go back to Al Horford, Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver in short order. Still, that enormous cushion was enough to provide Atlanta with nothing approaching a "danger zone", and even when the Pacers (somehow) climbed within 13, the panic levels were not quite as high as they could have easily been.

Atlanta reestablished control with a Kyle Korver three that gave the Hawks a 93-76 lead with less than seven minutes to go, and that was effectively the end of the downswing. Aside from the unfortunate side effect of less playing time for the likes of Mike Muscala and John Jenkins (who both appeared in the final three minutes), all was right with the world on the way to a 110-91 victory.

On a night where no singular player was dominant, the offensive balance was jarringly impressive. Six members of the Hawks scored in double-figures, led by DeMarre Carroll and Jeff Teague with 17 points each, and as a team, the Hawks shot 50% from the floor and 45% from beyond the arc. Defensively, it was equally as stirring, holding the Pacers to 40% shooting from the field and 20% from long range in their own right, and with those type of numbers, it would be difficult for anyone to topple the Atlanta Hawks in their own building.

With the franchise-tying 14th consecutive win under their belts, the Atlanta Hawks will be looking to make a little bit of history on Friday night. Philips Arena will host the Oklahoma City Thunder, and while that game looks quite a bit closer on paper than Wednesday's contest did, the Hawks are playing at a level where virtually anything seems possible. Stay tuned.

The Atlanta Hawks continue to roll along, and they will be looking to match the franchise record for consecutive victories against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

Monday afternoon's return to Philips Arena wasn't the beautiful exhibition of basketball that we have come to expect from the 2014-2015 Atlanta Hawks, but in the end, it was yet another victory. That win over Detroit moved Atlanta's winning streak to 13 consecutive games, and in the process, it set the stage for potential history on Wednesday night, as the Hawks host the Indiana Pacers.

The franchise record for consecutive wins sits at 14 straight, as the 1993-1994 Hawks put together that mark prior to trading Dominique Wilkins. Atlanta enters Wednesday as a heavy favorite to match that streak, as the Pacers come in with a 15-28 record in the absence of their franchise cornerstone in Paul George. Indiana is tied for the league's longest losing streak with five consecutive notches in the "L" column, and offense has been the issue for the Pacers.

As you may remember from last season's playoffs, offense has always been the central problem for this particular opponent, but in 2014-2015, Indiana has cratered. The Pacers are second-worst in the NBA (ahead of only Philadelphia) in offense, scoring only 97.9 points per 100 possessions, and with the Hawks playing the best defense in the league since December 1, that is a rough recipe for the visitors.

Still, Indiana has the ability to keep things close based on a defense that remains in the top-10, and it will be crucial for the Hawks to execute more effectively on offense than they did on Monday. Roy Hibbert is X-factor for the Pacers, but with Al Horford back and Pero Antic presumably available, it would be a surprise if Mike Budenholzer did not gameplan to keep the big fella away from the rim, giving Pacers fans considerable flashbacks to the 2014 playoffs.

Wednesday marks the season finale for these two teams, and the Hawks have claimed the first two match-ups. While the guard of some fans was up prior to Monday given the afternoon tip-off on national television, this game produces no such fear from the faithful, but with Oklahoma City on the horizon in a prime match-up on Friday evening, Wednesday's tilt could serve as a "trap" for the red-hot Hawks. Still, the Atlanta Hawks don't appear to be a team that would enter this battle unfocused, and anything short of a dismal effort should result in yet another home win.
