Angel McCoughtry led five different Atlanta players in double-figures with 18 points as the Dream extended their winning streak to six with an 85-64 win over the New York Liberty.

The Atlanta Dream continued to roll Friday night as they extended their winning streak to six straight games with an 85-64 win over the New York Liberty at Philips Arena. Atlanta is now a WNBA best 7-1 at home and lead the Eastern Conference with a 9-3 record.

Atlanta wasted little time in establishing themselves. They led 21-17 at the end of one and pushed that lead to 14 after a 28 point second quarter. Angel McCoughtry scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first half and the Dream got a boost from Aneika Henry who added 10 points and six rebounds off the bench in the first 20 minutes.

Atlanta continued to poor it on in the second half and stretched the lead to as many as 23 points. New York has had a difficult time finding consistent offense behind their duo of Tina Charles and Cappie Pondexter. The Dream did a great job defensively holding them to a combined 12 points on 6-20 shooting. Alex Montgomery led the Liberty with 11 points while DeLisha Milton-Jones added 10. New York shot just 39 percent in the game and finished with 16 turnovers.

Michael Cooper has to be pleased with the way his team is coming along at both ends of the floor. After grinding out a couple of wins against Washington, their free flowing offense returned against the Liberty as they racked up 22 assists on 33 made field goals. Tiffany Hayes continued her hot shooting finishing with 16 points. Rookie Shoni Schimmel finished with 14 points and four assists off the bench for Atlanta.

The Dream will wrap up the home-and-home set with the Liberty on Sunday in New York which is also the start of a three-game road trip that will also take them to San Antonio and Indiana.

The Atlanta Dream look for their sixth straight win Friday night when they take on Bill Laimbeer's New York Liberty.

The Atlanta Dream look to extend their winning streak to six game on Friday when they open a home-and-home series with the New York Liberty at Philips Arena. Atlanta's winning streak has enabled them to climb to the top of the Eastern Conference standings with an 8-3 record.

Atlanta completed a home-and-home sweep of the Washington Mystics on Wednesday with an 83-73 win. Angel McCoughtry tied a season-high with 27 points and helped fuel a late 14-0 run by the Dream to claim the victory. Atlanta is a league best 6-1 at home and look to continue that trend against a Liberty team that comes in struggling.

New York has lost four straight including a 105-100 decision in overtime to the Chicago Sky on Wednesday. Cappie Pondexter finished with 29 points in the loss while Tina Charles added 25.

It has been a struggle for the Liberty offensively behind Pondexter and Charles. They are second worst in the league with a 96.0 offensive rating. Bill Laimbeer has brought an aggressive defense into the fold along with Charles but New York simply hasn't been able to make the plays offensively down the stretch of games to find many victories particularly on the road where they have lost six straight.

Atlanta appears to be hitting their stride under Michael Cooper during their winning streak. The Dream possess a potent offense but have also shown the ability to grind out games when the situation calls for it. Perhaps most importantly they lead the league in defensive rating at 96.8 and that will keep them in a lot of games when their shooting might be off.

Getting their offense back rolling might be tough against the Liberty who will do a good job of turning the game ugly if need be. Pondexter and Charles are both capable of big performances but how Atlanta controls the rest of the roster might be difference in a win or a loss.
