The Utah Jazz have agreed to a deal with Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder to be the team's next head coach.

The Utah Jazz reportedly have a three-year deal in place with Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder to be the team's next head coach. Snyder had been seen as the frontrunner for the job over the last couple of weeks.

Like all of Atlanta's coaching staff, Snyder has a deep background in player development and that was reportedly something that Utah was seeking for its young roster. Snyder is a former head coach at the college and D-League level and has experience as an NBA assistant. He also spent a year overseas as an assistant on Ettore Messina's staff.

It was his ties to the San Antonio Spurs that led him to Atlanta and ultimately Utah. Jazz General Manager Dennis Lindsey also has ties to the Spurs organization and Snyder reportedly impressed ownership during his most recent interview.

Snyder impressed in his lone season with the Hawks and was credited by many Hawks players for his work with them during exit interviews. With his departure, Mike Budenholzer will be looking for a new top assistant to replace Snyder.

Utah will officially introduce Snyder at a press conference on Saturday.

"We are extremely happy for Quin and his family. He played an instrumental role within our coaching staff and team. This is a great opportunity for him and we wish him the best."

Jody Genessy of the Deseret News reports that Atlanta Hawks assistant Quin Snyder is the frontrunner for the Utah Jazz's vacant head coaching position.

The process continues to play out slowly but Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder is the frontrunner for the Utah Jazz's vacant head coaching position per a report from Jody Genessy of the Deseret News.

Although the Jazz still have a tough decision to make, it's believed that the 47-year-old Snyder remains in the front of the pack.

Other names on Utah's shortlist include current Jazz assistant Brad Jones, Alvin Gentry and Adrian Griffin.

Snyder just finished his first season in Atlanta as a member of Mike Budenholzer's first staff with the Hawks. Snyder has a lot of experience as a former head coach in college and in the D-League and several years experience as an assistant at the NBA level. During exit interviews several Hawks players credited Snyder by name as a huge part of their development this season.

ProBasketballTalk's Kurt Helin writes that the Jazz need a coach that can develop talent given the amount of young players on their roster with another high lottery selection on the way. Snyder seems like he would be a great fit from that standpoint.

Update:

Per a report from Yahoo's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Utah Jazz are finalizing an agreement to make Snyder its head coach

Per a published report, Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder has been granted a follow-up interview with the Utah Jazz, joining both Adrian Griffin and Alvin Gentry.

Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder has been an intriguing, under the radar name on the coaching market this off-season, and he has already been linked to the search by the Utah Jazz. However, that pursuit has reportedly intensified, and Snyder is a member of a trio of candidates who have been granted a second interview by the team.

Tony Jones of the Salt Lake Tribune brings the report:

The Tribune has confirmed that Atlanta Hawks assistant Quin Snyder has interviewed once with Utah, and like Griffin, has been called back for a second interview.

In fairness, Snyder is the least recognizable candidate of the three, as current Clippers assistant Alvin Gentry has already been a head coach at multiple stops, and Bulls assistant Adrian Griffin has long been discussed as a future head coach in the league. Still, members of Atlanta's roster have been quoted in glowing terms about Snyder, and the former Missouri Tigers head coach does have experience as the man in charge.

A few more steps would likely be needed for anything to be imminent with a potential move to Utah for Quin Snyder, but it is encouraging to see members of the staff in high demand.

Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder's name continues to pop up in conjunction with Utah's vacant head coach position.

The NBA's coaching carousel is starting to spin and Atlanta Hawks assistant coach Quin Snyder is still on the Utah Jazz's radar according to beat writer Jody Genessy.

While much of the coaching talk has centered around Steve Kerr, Stan Van Gundy and the vacancies by the New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors there are still other openings out there. Utah is flying a bit under the radar and seemingly waiting for the dust to clear with a lot of the big names.

Per Genessy, the Jazz are among the teams that have shown interest in former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins but then casts doubt that Utah will hire a coach with prior head coaching experience.

Snyder is in his first year as an assistant in Atlanta under head coach Mike Budenholzer whom he worked with in San Antonio. Not coincidentally Utah GM Dennis Lindsey also worked in San Antonio and has been rumored to be interested in Euroleague legend Ettore Messina. Snyder spent a year in Messina's bench at CSKA Moscow.

Atlanta has assembled a talented young coaching staff and it's quite possible that this won't be the only time we hear one of them mentioned as being a candidate for another job. Snyder has the most recognizable name but fellow assistant Kenny Atkinson had his name come up in conjunction with the Philadelphia 76ers last offseason.
