John Jenkins had a good September and is feeling well heading into training camp according to Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer.

The 2014 season was a complete wash for Atlanta Hawks' guard John Jenkins who battled a persistent back injury and eventually led to season-ending surgery. At no point last season did Jenkins look healthy and the situation didn't appear to be improved when he attempted to suit up at the Las Vegas Summer League. However, according to head coach Mike Budenholzer, Jenkins had a great September and has returned to the court and shown no limitations.

"John has had a great September. He's been playing in open gym with no limitations and playing well. I think feeling well. It's been great for him to have that feeling back again. I think he is excited about camp. We're excited about having him healthy and watching him compete."

Jenkins had a solid rookie season in 2013 averaging 6.1 points while making 38 percent of his three-point attempts. He will face a bit of an uphill battle as he tries to compete for minutes in what is a crowded backcourt. Kyle Korver is entrenched as the team's starter and the Hawks added Kent Bazemore and Thabo Sefolosha to the mix in free agency.

Still if healthy, Jenkins possesses the long range shooting that the Hawks covet and looks like a good fit for Budenholzer's spread the floor offense. Atlanta's roster appears set heading to training camp but that doesn't mean there won't be any competition.

Injured guard John Jenkins told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he is feeling better following back surgery and could be back in time for summer league.

John Jenkins talked with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution prior to Tuesday's game and said that he was progressing in his recovery from season-ending back surgery.

There is still no timetable for Jenkins' return to the court but it appears that Summer League could be a possibility.

"Whenever they tell me it's time to get ready to play, that's when I'll be the most excited person in the world."

Typically summer league rosters are populated with rookies, first- and second-year players and free agents although some third-year players have worked their way onto rosters. If healthy, it would give Jenkins a jumpstart in his road back and give him some time to get comfortable before training camp rolls around.

Jenkins' season got off to a rough start after his back flared up during training camp. He was in and out of the rotation early but dealing with constant pain and it clearly was affecting his performance. He appeared in just 13 games and had season-ending surgery on February 3.

Jenkins had surgery to alleviate lower back pain.

The Hawks announced that sophomore guard John Jenkins underwent season-ending lower back surgery this morning.

The 2012 first-round pick has been bothered by back issues for months now, but they most recently flared up with some leg nerve problems in late December, and he hasn't played since. He only managed to appear in 13 games during his sophomore season.

Jenkins will have a period of rest and recovery and will then undergo treatment and rehabilitation for his back. Best of luck for John in his recovery.

Second year guard John Jenkins is reportedly considering having back surgery to correct an injury that has plagued him since the offseason.

Atlanta Hawks guard John Jenkins is "seriously considering" having back surgery due to the injury that has plagued him since the offseason according to a report by Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The report cites a "person familiar with the situation" and Jenkins was not available for comment. He did not travel with the Hawks to Milwaukee and has only appeared in 13 games this season.

The problem with his back developed over the summer sometime after summer league. It flared up again during training camp and has led to a nerve problem in his leg. Jenkins clearly has been hampered by the injury and was affecting his performance.

The first course of treatment was rest and rehab but that doesn't appear to have helped the situation if the report is accurate. Back surgery would most likely sideline him for the remainder of the season with rehab stretching into the summer. The Hawks picked up Jenkins third-year option earlier this season.

John Jenkins remains out of action due to a back injury and will continue to rest and receive therapy as treatment.

John Jenkins continues to battle a lower back injury that is causing him pain in his leg but won't have surgery at least in the short term. Jenkins will continue to rest and receive therapy on his back per a report from the AJC's Chris Vivlamore.

Jenkins initially suffered the injury over the summer and then was forced to miss most of training camp. It put him behind and he has played sparingly since the regular season started.

Jenkins has apparently grown tired of the situation and indicated that he and his agent along with Ferry would formulate a plan going forward.

Jenkins appeared in 61 games as a rookie averaging 6.1 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. He has been limited to just 13 games this season and his shooting percentage and scoring average has tumbled to 38 percent and 3.1 points per game.

The agent for John Jenkins and Atlanta Hawks GM Danny Ferry are weighing options as Jenkins continues to battle a back injury that is causing a nerve problem in his leg.

John Jenkins talked with the AJC's Chris Vivlamore prior to Thursday's game to discuss a nerve problem in his leg that kept him out of action against the Cavs. Jenkins suffered a back injury over the summer and it has hampered him for much of the season. Now he is having pain in his leg that could be related and he is currently weighing his options for treatment. From his interview with Vivlamore:

My back is fine. It's a pain going down my leg. It's irritating. It's uncomfortable. I'm dealing with that. I'll probably get another epidural soon. I'm weighing my options on what I need to do to eliminate this thing forever. It's been too long. It's been preventing me from playing the way I need to be playing. I'm trying to play on it, play through it. It's time to just get it out of the way forever. My agent, Billy Duffy, and the team, (general manager) Danny Ferry, are working on whatever they have to do to end this thing forever.

When asked if he was considering surgery, Jenkins said it was a possibility but that they would like to avoid it. However, getting pain free was the biggest goal.

Possibly but we are trying to avoid that. If it has to come to that, I would have to do it. Whatever it takes to get it done with forever, I'm doing it. I don't think right now that is in the discussion.

Click through to read the entire interview because it talks about what Jenkins has been dealing with. Anyone that has had a back injury of any kind will certainly be able to relate. In the short term it sounds like Jenkins could be out for sometime.

John Jenkins won't play in Thursday's matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to a back injury.

Second-year guard John Jenkins will be out for Thursday's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers due to a back injury that has plagued him since the offseason per a report from the AJC's Chris Vivlamore. Jenkins sat out most of Thursday's shootaround.

We first learned of Jenkins' back injury at the start of the training camp. Apparently the injury was discovered sometime after summer league and forced Jenkins to be shut down for much of the offseason. He missed a large portion of training camp and has been seemingly playing catch up ever since.

Jenkins has appeared in just 13 games this season averaging 3.1 points while shooting 38 percent from the field. Vivlamore also reports that Cartier Martin is improving from an ankle injury that has kept him out of the last five games.

As far as the backcourt goes, the Hawks still appear to be in good shape with Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver as the starters with Shelvin Mack and Lou Williams the first two off the bench. Should Mike Budenholzer need to go deeper into his bench he could turn to rookie Dennis Schroöder.

The Cavaliers have injury concerns of their own at guard. Dion Waiters has missed the last four games with a wrist injury. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer he will be a gametime decision for tonight's game. Waiters scored a game-high 30 points in the previous meeting against the Hawks.
