Al Horford scored 34 points, including the game winner, and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Atlanta Hawks defeated the Washington Wizards 101-99.

The Washington Wizards were short-handed on the evening, missing Nene and Bradley Beal, but they still fought valiantly and came up just short of knocking off the Atlanta Hawks at home. Al Horford carried the Hawks offensively all evening long adding 34 points on just 23 shots. Paul Millsap, Kyle Korver, and Jeff Teague also played well on the evening, but Horford was x-factor.

The Hawks came out of the gate rather lethargically as the Wizards jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead. Martell Webster of the Wizards led the charge early, but the Hawks energy picked up as Horford and Millsap finally started to get going. The rest of the quarter saw a lot of back and forth action with neither team breaking it open early.

The second quarter was more of the same back and forth action. Georgia native Glenn Rice Jr. was hot early in the quarter hitting his first three shots. The Wizards second-unit pushed their lead to seven at point in the quarter, but Wittman may have left the unit in a tad too long as the lead quickly evaporated down to two before Wittman finally put his starters back in.

The Hawks finally broke things open in the third thanks in large part to some horrid shooting by the Wizards. Both the Wizards and the Hawks had a lot of good looks, but they simply weren't falling. The Hawks moved the ball incredibly well this quarter and it led to a lot of easy baskets. The Hawks led by 71-61 going into the fourth quarter.

The Wizards started off the fourth quarter with cold too, but it wouldn't last. Wall, Gortat and Booker finally found their stroke and went on a 16-2 run to get the Wizards back in it. The Wizards killed the Hawks on the glass grabbing 18 offensive boards, which especially hurt the Hawks late. The Hawks ran a play for Shelvin Mack on their last possession of regulation, which failed but Korver grabbed the offensive rebound and got it to Horford who got fouled and made both free throws to tie the game and ultimately send it to overtime.

Booker did everything he possibly could do in overtime to knock off the Hawks, but Teague and Horford came up big down the stretch that ended with a Horford lob to give the Hawks a 101-99 victory over the short-handed Wizards.

Should it have been this close? Probably not, but a win's a win and the Hawks needed it.

The Atlanta Hawks have recalled shooting guard John Jenkins after a four-game stint with the Bakersfield Jam.

The Atlanta Hawks have recalled shooting guard John Jenkins from the Bakersfield Jam after a four-game stint in the D-League per a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Jenkins appeared in four games with the Jam 21.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He shot 42 percent from the field but just 22 percent from three-point range. Jenkins was able to get a decent amount of run in averaging over 36 minutes per contest.

Last night for the Jam Jenkins finished with a team-high 18 points on 6-18 shooting in a loss against the Santa Cruz Warriors. He returns to Atlanta and should be in uniform tonight due to the injury to center Gustavo Ayon.

The Atlanta Hawks look to continue their dominance of the Washington Wizards at Philips Arena when the two teams meet Friday night.

The Atlanta Hawks haven't lost to the Washington Wizards at home since the 2008 season. They will try to bounce back from a loss in the previous meeting when the two teams square off Friday night at Philips Arena.

Atlanta has lost six of ten overall but have played better of late despite Tuesday's 101-92 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Hawks are 11-11 on the season and suffered a 108-101 loss to the Wizards earlier this season. John Wall was superb in that earlier meeting finishing with 26 points and 12 assists while Paul Millsap led Atlanta with 23 points and 10 rebounds. However, the biggest blow for Atlanta in that loss came from the perimeter where Trevor Ariza and Martell Webster combined to make 10-15 three-point attempts.

Slowing down Wall will be key once again as his penetration set up Washington's shooters in the first meeting. Wall is off to a career-best start and is averaging 19.6 points and 9.1 assists on the season. It will be just another day at the office for Jeff Teague who has matched up against some of the league's best point guards of late.

Injuries could play a big factor in this one as well as Washington comes in beat up and on a two-game losing streak. The Wizards will be without Al Harrington and Bradley Beal and could be without Webster and Nene who are both listed as questionable. Webster hit five threes and finished with 19 points in the previous meeting while Nene logged a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Atlanta will be without back up center Gustavo Ayon who is recovering from an ankle injury that he suffered last week in a win over the Cavaliers.

Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from Philips Arena.
