Wednesday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers lifted the Hawks into fifth place in the tightly bunched Eastern Conference standings.

Wednesday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers lifted the Hawks into fifth place in the Eastern Conference Standings but things are still tightly bunched with only 4.5 games separating third place from seventh place.

Atlanta enters play on Thursday a half game behind the Brooklyn Nets whom they will face Saturday at Philips Arena. The Hawks lead Chicago by a half game after the Bulls lost their second straight on Wednesday. The Celtics are currently in seventh place but just one game behind the Hawks. So this weekend's games become much more important as the season kicks into the final stretch with the playoff scenarios changing almost daily.

Atlanta came out of the gate slowly missing their first seven shots and falling behind 8-0 forcing a Larry Drew time out. The Hawks responded by ending the quarter with a 26-11 run to take control of the game. Atlanta got sterling performances from Jeff Teague and Al Horford and a season best performance from Anthony Tolliver who finished with a season-high 21 points.

Coming into the game, Larry Drew expressed concern over how his team would slow down Philly point guard Jrue Holiday. He was pleased following the game after holding Holiday to 11 points on 3-12 shooting. Holiday did hand out 12 assists but failed to have the impact that Drew had feared during the pre-game.

Teague led the Hawks with 27 points and 11 assists. Al Horford also recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Tolliver hit 7-10 shots and went 5-7 from three-point range for his 21 points. Josh Smith chipped in 13 points and six boards to round out the Hawks' players in double figures.

Philadelphia cut the lead to three points in the third quarter before Atlanta responded with another run. Drew acknowledged following the game that his team was still really tired from their six-game road trip but that he sensed a confidence from his team. They coasted at times after building big leads but never lost control of the game knowing they could make plays when they needed them.

Damien Wilkins led the Sixers with 21 points off the bench. Dorell Wright added 20 while Thaddeus Young finished with 16.

Kyle Korver (toe) and Zaza Pachulia (Achilles) will be game-time decisions for tonight's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Kyle Korver and Zaza Pachulia will be game-time decisions for the Atlanta Hawks in Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Korver is suffering from a sprained toe that he hurt in Sunday's loss to the Lakers. He sat out Monday's game against the Nuggets but took part in the team's shootaround on Wednesday. He will wait to see how the toe responds and see how he feels after warming up tonight before determining his status.

Zaza Pachulia has battled a sore Achilles since before the All-Star break. He was a late scratch from Monday's game against the Nuggets and did not participate in the morning shootaround. Like Korver, he will have his status determined sometime closer to tipoff.

DeShawn Stevenson is expected back after sitting out Monday's second game of a back-to-back. Atlanta got a scare against the Nuggets when Jeff Teague twisted his ankle. He briefly left the game, had his ankle re-taped and returned to the game. The Hawks have just two true options at the point guard position in Teague and Devin Harris which is something that could have prompted Wednesday's move to sign Shelvin Mack from the D-League to a 10-day contract.

Oh Jeremy, we hardly knew ye.

From the official Hawks press release this morning:

The Atlanta Hawks have waived forward/center Jeremy Tyler, Hawks President of Basketball Operations/General Manager Danny Ferry announced today.

Acquired from the Golden State Warriors on February 21, Tyler appeared in one game for the Hawks (March 4 at Denver), grabbing three rebounds in five minutes of action.

What will the Hawks do with the extra roster spot. Keeping it vacant and signing a backup PG seem to be the leaders in the clubhouse, though we don't rule out Danny Ferry activating himself, like the great Roger Dorn did so many years ago.

UPDATE: Chris Vivlamore of the AJC is reporting that the Hawks will indeed use the roster spot for a PG and it will be Shelvin Mack.

The Atlanta Hawks return to Philips Arena Wednesday night to take on the Philadelphia 76ers and are looking to snap a three-game losing skid.

The Atlanta Hawks return home to Philips Arena after a 3-3 road trip and are looking to snap a three-game slide when they take on the Philadelphia 76ers. The Hawks remain right in the middle of things in the tightly contested East Standings but Wednesday's game is an important one given this weekend's back-to-back against Boston and Brooklyn.

Compounding problems for Atlanta is a rash of injuries that cropped up to end the road trip. Kyle Korver, Zaza Pachulia and DeShawn Stevenson all sat out Monday's loss to Denver. Jeff Teague rolled an ankle and Ivan Johnson suffered a dislocated finger against the Nuggets but were able to return and play. The Hawks likely won't know who might be available until after Wednesday morning's shootaround.

Larry Drew and the Hawks aren't likely to get much sympathy from Doug Collins and the Sixers who have lost two straight and nine of their last 10. Its been a frustrating season for Collins and his team who have been without the services of Andrew Bynum as he continues to try and comeback from a knee injury. Philly has lost 10 in a row on the road.

If the Hawks are going to add to Philadelphia's struggles, then slowing down Jrue Holiday will be the first priority. The first-time All-Star is averaging a career-best 19.1 points and 8.5 assists this season. Atlanta suffered a 99-80 loss in Philadelphia back in December.
