Josh Smith has seen his name in his fair share of trade rumors this season and perhaps he helped raise the asking price somewhat with Monday's performance against the Mavericks.

Josh Smith stood out in the Atlanta Hawks 105-101 win over the Dallas Mavericks Monday night finishing with 26 points, 13 rebounds and six assists while going 10-15 from the field and 4-5 from three-point range. While the deft touch from the outside isn't something that Hawks fans come to expect nightly from Smith, you can't sell short the meaningfulness of each bucket in Monday's win.

We certainly won't complain about a win but on five of Smith's shot attempts came in the paint which certainly isn't a recipe for success. Of Smith's attempts you can say that few were forced and he has proven to be a much better shooter when he shoots in rhythm and without hesitation.

Smith's upcoming free agency hasn't been nearly the sideshow that it could have been although the volume is getting turned up somewhat as we close in on the February 21 trade deadline. To Smith's credit he is playing some of his best basketball of the season of late averaging 19.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists while shooting 52 percent over his last five games. Smith is shooting a blistering 67 percent from three point range over that span.

That deft three-point shooting might be fools gold and the case could be made that the Hawks won in Dallas on Monday by doing things that isn't likely to produce positive results often. Following the game, Smith reiterated that his concentration is on the court:

''I'm just trying to focus on getting better as an individual on the court,'' Smith said. ''As long as I'm with the Atlanta Hawks, I can only focus on how to make this team better.''

Smith recently talked about his situation with NBA.com's Jeff Caplan and reiterated his support for Atlanta. He talks about having his entire family there as well as being able to drive to home games with his dad. Smith added that he has a lot invested in Atlanta but understands the business side of things. For the first time in a couple of weeks he doesn't sound like a player that has one foot out the door.

"I will say there is a lot invested," said Smith, who has gone on a tear over the last nine games. "I was born and raised there, spent my whole childhood and my whole life there. I will say it's a big investment." But, Smith continued, "Once you understand as a player that this is a business and you don't take anything personal, you kind of worry about just playing basketball."

Rumors will continue to swirl around Smith for the next week and the Hawks may in fact decide to move on if they think that the asking price for a new contract will be more than they are willing to pay this offseason. However, given the strength of these trade rumors it looks like the Hawks may be better off holding onto Smith until the summer where there could be many more options.

Josh Smith scored 26 points to lead the Atlanta Hawks to a rare road win in the state of Texas with a 105-101 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Josh Smith insisted that the constant swirl of trade rumors was not a distraction. Monday night he proved that by finishing with 26 points 13 rebounds and six assists and helped lead the Atlanta Hawks to a 105-101 win over the Dallas Mavericks.

Smith hit a three to put Atlanta up 99-94 with 1:29 remaining which was his fourth made bucket from downtown in five attempts. Dallas cut the lead to one point after four straight points from Dirk Nowitzki. Smith then calmly converted two free throws to put the Hawks back up three with just 22 seconds remaining. The Mavericks turned the ball over on the ensuing possession and four free throws from Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver helped seal the victory.

The Hawks hit 52 percent of their shots from the field and won the rebounding battle 48-37. They probably walk away with a much more comfortable win if not for 18 turnovers of which seven came in the fourth quarter.

Five different Hawks including Smith scored in double figures. Al Horford also recorded a double-double finishing with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jeff Teague kept the Hawks in front early and finished with 20 points and nine assists. Devin Harris moved back into the starting lineup and came up with 15 points and five assists and a timely steal late that helped preserve the victory. Kyle Korver overcame an ankle injury and chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Nowitzki led Dallas with 24 points and seven rebounds. O.J. Mayo added 19 while Darren Collison finished with 14 points and 10 assists. Noted Hawks killer Vince Carter was limited to 13 points off the bench.

Atlanta improves to 28-22 on the season and improves to 11-13 on the road. The Hawks will head into the All-Star break following Wednesday's game in Orlando.

Hawks injury report: DeShawn Stevenson has missed the last two games with soreness in his knee. His status for Monday's game has not been determined. Kyle Korver sat out Sunday's practice with an ankle injury but is expected to play Monday night. Lou Williams is out for the season with a torn ACL.

Update* Kyle Korver is a game-time decision per @AJCHawks

Mavericks injury report: Chris Kamen is listed as questionable with a concussion.

Hawks player to watch: Josh Smith is leading Atlanta in scoring and is second in rebounds and assists. Yet trade rumors continue to swirl as the February trade deadline draws near. Smith has said that he remains focused but these next three games before the deadline could be a big test.

Mavericks player to watch: Shawn Marion is averaging 17.7 points over his last seven games and scored 26 points in Saturday's win over the Golden State Warriors. The small forward position is one the Hawks often have trouble matching up with and they will need to hold Marion much closer to his season average.

The Atlanta Hawks head out on the road to take on the Dallas Mavericks in the first of two meetings between the two teams this season.

The Atlanta Hawks are searching for some consistency as they head into the final two games before the league wide break for All-Star Weekend. Atlanta looked like it had regained some of its poise when they defeated Memphis 103-92 last week but Friday's 111-100 loss to New Orleans suggests otherwise.

More troublesome in the loss to the Hornets was that the Hawks led by as many as 14 points in the first half but were unable to keep their foot on the gas. Atlanta will be looking for a full 48 minute effort on Monday when they travel to Dallas to take on the Mavericks.

Atlanta is 1-8 over its last nine road games. Its been a disappointing season thus far for the Mavericks but they have been much better at home of late winning six of eight.

Other than Lou Williams, the Hawks enter Monday's game relatively healthy with only DeShawn Stevenson appearing on the team's injury report. Stevenson has missed the last two games with soreness in his knee and his status for tonight's game is unknown. The Mavericks could be without center Chris Kamen who is listed as questionable with a concussion.
