The Hawks rallied in the fourth quarter and cut a double digit fourth quarter Piston lead to a single point, but the last of the Hawks 17 turnovers, broken plays and a wild shot by Lou Williams ended the Hawks hopes of completing the comeback.

The Hawks played without urgency for most of the game, getting into foul trouble and failing to stop the Pistons in a first half that saw the Hawks get down 15 going into halftime and only scoring 36 total points.

The Hawks have long struggled with winning in Detroit, won-loss records aside, and for three quarters the voodoo that Motown has over the Hawks permeated every facet of the Hawks game.

Josh Smith started strong, but go into foul trouble and, by the time the Hawks got back into the game, he was a spectator, ending the game with 20 points, two blocks and two steals.

Al Horford was his usual boss self, scoring 18 points on 9-13 shooting, grabbing 15 boards and nearly brought the Hawks all the way back at the end of a 22-11 Hawks fourth quarter.

After some big threes by Kyle Korver and Lou Williams got the Hawks back into the mix, down three, with six seconds left on the clock, Horford launched what looked to be a game tying three, the kind that Hawks fans have seen from bigs like Chris Bosh and others against them all the time in big situations. Horford made the shot, sending everybody on the PTH Game Thread bonkers, but upon video review, his big toe or something touched the line and it was reduced to a two-point shot and the Hawks still trailed by one.

However, there is a reason why lottery teams have been in the lottery and the Pistons drew up one of the craziest inbounds plays I have ever seen -- and likely not to see again.

With no timeouts, Tayshaun Prince was inbounding the ball. But the Pistons chose to only give him two targets to throw to, leaving the lanky forward with no place to go as the internal five second clock must have been banging loudly in his head.

Prince turned the ball over on the pass, the Hawks called timeout and setup the final play.

The ball came into Horford, but was immediately fouled. Then it looked as if the Hawks had a second play called, maybe the show and go with Horford on the high post with a guard looking like he's going to take a handoff from Al.

The ball came to Al but there was no guard, so Al tossed the ball into the corner to Lou Williams, but Lou's shot over Andre Drummond meekly hit the side of the backboard and the Pistons survived.

It was a rough game for some of the PTH favorites as Zaza, Ivan and Jenkins didn't have it going on a night where the Hawks desperately needed a spark throughout.

The Hawks travel back home to play the hated Boston Celtics Saturday night.

He scored 14 early first quarter points and made 13 of his first 18 shots. However, as the game progressed, Josh Smith's shot selection got worst as he missed all 7 of his field goal attempts in the 4th quarter and both overtime periods. Which Josh Smith do we see tonight?

The Atlanta Hawks head back out on the road for a rematch of last week's double overtime win against the Detroit Pistons.

After a brief stop back in Atlanta, the Hawks head back on the road as they prepare to wrap up their three-game road swing against the Detroit Pistons. Atlanta is hoping that 48 minutes will be sufficient this time around. The Hawks blew a 20+ point lead in the fourth quarter against Detroit back on December 26 but survived in double overtime 126-119. The Pistons left that game feeling like they missed an opportunity but they shocked the Miami Heat one day later and will carry a three-game winning streak into Friday's game.

The Hawks will be without Devin Harris, Anthony Morrow and Johan Petro against the Pistons. Harris is out with a foot injury that has hampered him the last two weeks. Morrow suffered a hip injury against Cleveland and remains out. Petro's name is new to the injury report and he will miss Friday's game with a stomach illness. Al Horford also sat out the team's practice on Thursday with a sore hip but he did travel to Detroit and expects to play in the game.

Larry Drew said on Thursday that he plans to stick with Lou Williams in the starting lineup and isn't going to change up what has been working for the team.

"I'm going to stay with what works. That's been working for us [The smaller lineup with Lou] and you know, a couple of games I thought about going back to the bigger lineup, but sometimes you gotta roll the dice a little bit and try to force the opposition to try to adjust to us. He's been good in our lineup and I'm going to keep it that way...Lou plays big, if you don't take advantage of him on the one end, you better be ready for him on the other end."

The Hawks had two days off after playing a back-to-back with Houston (loss) and New Orleans (win) so they returned to Atlanta to practice in preparation of yet another road-home back-to-back as they go to Detroit tomorrow and will come back to face Boston on Saturday.

The Hawks took to the practice court today but were missing a number of players due to injury. Al Horford sat out with a hip injury, but is not expected to have any problems playing. Devin Harris is out with the same foot injury that has kept him sidelined for the past couple weeks, but may travel with the team to Detroit although it is unlikely that he will play. Anthony Morrow (hip) and Johan Petro (stomach virus) both sat out and neither will travel with the team and their status for Saturday's game is uncertain.

Despite being short-handed, the Hawks went back and ran through some sets, added in some new wrinkles off of in-bounds plays (their specialty), and worked on things they did well (and tried to fix things they didn't do well) in their first meeting with the Pistons that went to double overtime.

After practice, Larry Drew addressed the allocation of minutes over this back-to-back stretch, and the lineups we can expect seeing, first, discussing Jenkins playing time.

"Well one thing that has worked out, I don't want to say in a good way or a bad way, we've been injured. Morrow's been out and we've been a little short-handed on the perimeter with Devin being out and it's opened up playing opportunities for [Jenkins] and he's made the most of it. He's really come in and opened my eyes. He's a guy that can make shots and, very similar to Kyle Korver, when he's out there you have to pay attention to him. The other thing about him is his athleticism is underestimated. I liked what I saw in New Orleans when he was matched up with Gordon."

As for the starting lineup, Drew says he will continue going with this group as long as they're hot, no matter who is available.

As for Zaza and Ivan, Drew said they could see more extended playing time due to the injuries, most importantly Al, on the front-line.

"Very possibly [Zaza could see more minutes], it just depends on how Al does. Al has been banged up, and Petro will not be on the trip, so there could potentially be more minutes for Zaza. I didn't play Ivan the last game, he'll certainly be playing some minutes in these next couple games."

Drew was asked about his Coach of the Month honors, and, jokingly, if he felt on the hot seat after what happened to the last coach of the month, Avery Johnson.

"No, I don't feel like I'm on the hot seat (laughs). I'm very honored to be chosen as Eastern Conference Coach of the Month. I'm just proud the guys were able to have the month they had, and hopefully we can have a better month this January."

The Hawks flew out at 3 PM to Detroit and they will be looking to get their second win over the Pistons this year, and hopefully this time they won't need two overtimes to do it.
