Prior to Friday night's game, Larry Drew acknowledged Josh Smith's shot selection late in Wednesday's double overtime win over the Detroit Pistons. Drew said he spoke with Smith about it and they were moving on.

A lot could be read into Josh Smith's fourth quarter absence from Friday night's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. Officially Smith was out of the game with a strained hip flexor but he had struggled with his shot through the first three quarters going just 2-12 for seven points and five turnovers. To his credit he found other ways to impact the game with six rebounds, six assists and five blocked shots.

Smith looked like he was on his way to one of his best games as a professional in Wednesday's double overtime win over the Detroit Pistons. His final line of 31 points, 10 rebounds and six assists looks impressive despite his struggles late. After going inside early and often making 13-17 attempts for 30 points through three quarters. As the game got tight in the fourth quarter Smith found himself on the perimeter and fired up some questionable shots as the Hawks were trying to hold on. He ended up going 0-7 from the field in the fourth quarter and both overtime periods while scoring just one point.

Smith was rather defiant when post game questions turned to shot selection in the fourth quarter and overtimes:

"We took the same shots we had early, they just weren't going down. They were open looks."

Prior to Friday's game, Larry Drew acknowledged Smith's poor shot selection against the Pistons and said that he had talked with Smith and that they were moving on.

"It was just poor shot selection," Drew said. "He knows it. We've already talked about it. That was a game where I thought he probably settled a little too much on the perimeter. He acknowledged it. We look at tape and we talk about it and we just move on."

Friday's shot chart against the Cavs looks eerily similar to what we saw late against the Pistons. Just three of Smith's attempts against Cleveland came from inside the paint.

Jeff Teague's career-high 27 points helped spark the Atlanta Hawks to a come from behind 102-94 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers Friday night.

Larry Drew asked for more from Jeff Teague and on Friday night the young point guard delivered against the Cavaliers. Teague responded by scoring 14 of his career-high 27 points in the fourth quarter and helped lead the Hawks to a come from behind win against Cleveland. Teague hit 11-19 shots, 3-6 from downtown and handed out eight assists. It was the kind of performance that Josh Smith and the rest of his teammates are looking for from Teague.

"As he goes, in all seriousness, whenever he is aggressive on both ends of the floor it sets the tone for us and we are a successful team. He understands now. He's coming into his own. He understands where we need him to be."

Atlanta led by as many as 11 points in the second quarter before the Cavaliers closed the half on a run that was finished off by a wild half court buzzer beater from Kyrie Irving that pulled Cleveland within a point at 55-54. However, Teague's jumper with 2:32 remaining put Atlanta back in front for good. They would score the last nine points of the game and held Cleveland scoreless for nearly the final three minutes.

Following the game, Larry Drew wasn't ready to take the credit for lighting a fire under Teague. "I didn't say a word to him," Drew said of Teague. "I would like to take credit for it but, no, I'm not going to do it. He just came out and played. He played with the energy and the intensity I've always said when he plays with that type of energy he makes us a much better ball club. He came out and took the challenge."

Teague's big night helped offset the big night of Cleveland point guard Kyrie Irving who finished with 28 points and five assists. Irving missed the first meeting between the two clubs with a finger injury but made his presence felt Friday night. However, with Teague leading the charge it was the Hawks that made enough plays down the stretch to pull out the victory.

The Atlanta Hawks finished Friday's game against Cleveland shorthanded after injuries to both Anthony Morrow and Josh Smith.

Injuries are starting to pile up for the Atlanta Hawks as you can add two more names to the list. Anthony Morrow missed the second half of Friday's win with a strained hip muscle while Josh Smith sat out the entire fourth quarter with what was reported as a strained hip flexor.

Devin Harris didn't even make the trip to Cleveland as he missed his fifth straight game with a foot injury. Prior to the game Ivan Johnson came down with a stomach illness and remained behind at the team hotel. A quick turnaround with a home game against the Pacers on Saturday could have Larry Drew going deep into his bench once again.

Drew resisted the urge to play DeShawn Stevenson who was held out in an effort to be fresh for Saturday's game against the Pacers. Instead Drew turned to the likes of Anthony Tolliver who responded with 13 points off the bench and rookies John Jenkins and Mike Scott. Tolliver scored 11 of his 13 points in the second quarter as the Hawks opened up a lead. Scott played nearly nine minutes in the second quarter while Jenkins scored all five of his points in the fourth. It was the first time this season that either rookie has been thrown into the fire of a game that wasn't already decided.

Johnson, Smith and Morrow's status for Saturday's game likely won't be determined until prior to tipoff. Harris isn't likely to return to action although Drew will have a rested Stevenson at his disposal against Indiana.

The Atlanta Hawks extended their winning streak to three games Friday night as they defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-94 at Quicken Loans Arena. Atlanta used a dominant fourth quarter and closed out the game strongly scoring the last nine points of the game while holding Cleveland scoreless over the final 2:53.

Atlanta got some big contributions from some unlikely places as Jeff Teague set a career-high with 27 points on 11-19 shooting. Teague also finished with a team high eight assists and added a couple of steals to his line. Atlanta outscored Cleveland 27-14 in the fourth quarter and Teague's bucket with 2:32 remaining gave the Hawks back the lead for good.

Lou Williams started for the third consecutive game and finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists. Al Horford recorded another double-double finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Anthony Tolliver was pressed into duty playing just over 21 minutes and finished with 13 points off the bench. Kyle Korver rounded out Atlanta's scorers in double figures with 11.

Kyrie Irving did his best to match Teague's big night finishing with 28 points, six rebounds and five assists. Dion Waiters added 18 points while Tyler Zeller chipped in 12.

After getting obliterated on the boards in the first matchup between the two teams, the Hawks out rebounded the Cavs this time around 43-40. It certainly helped that Anderson Varejao missed the game with a bruised knee after he grabbed 18 by himself in the first meeting. His replacement Zeller finished with seven in just over 37 minutes.

The Hawks will fly home after the game and prepare for Saturday's matchup against the Indiana Pacers at Philips Arena.

In Atlanta's 113-111 loss to Cleveland back on November 30, the Hawks were hammered on the boards 49-28. Varejao grabbed 18 of those 49 rebounds for the Cavs. His presence and length will be sorely missed by Cleveland.

Rookie Tyler Zeller is expected to start at center for Cleveland and is averaging 7.7 points and 5.2 rebounds in 24 minutes per game this season.

The Hawks will also be without guard Devin Harris who remained behind in Atlanta with a foot injury. Johnson's absence is troubling given the success that the Cavs had against the Hawks on the boards in the previous meeting. At times this season, Larry Drew has opted to use a three-man rotation across the frontcourt with Josh Smith, Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia. That scenario seems likely for tonight but also moves Mike Scott and Johan Petro a notch up the depth chart.

Larry Drew said that he was unsure of tonight's starting lineup and wasn't sure which game of the back-to-back that he would rest DeShawn Stevenson.
