As you know, we are doing a season long daily fantasy basketball series, sponsored by our friends over at FanDuel. As you watch me go broke over there, you may wonder how the Hawks roster is valued in the daily game.

So over the course of the season, we're going to look at the rise and fall of player values as it relates to the daily fantasy basketball game.

First, it may be important for you to understand how the scoring works in this game, so that the dollar values reflected makes sense.

Scoring Categories
Point = 1pt, Rebound = 1.2pts, Assist = 1.5pts, Block = 2pts, Steal = 2pts, Turnover = -1pt

Looking at this, you'd see how guys like Hakeem Olajuwon would thrive in this kind of game back in the day and why Anthony Davis does today.

So with that in mind, here are the Atlanta Hawks values for 11.05.14:

PF Paul Millsap (27.1 FP/gm), $8,300

PG Jeff Teague (41.7 FP/gm) $7,900

C Al Horford (34.0 FP/gm)  $7,600

SF DeMarre Carroll (20.7 FP/gm)  $5,200

SG Kyle Korver (24.5 FP/gm)  $4,600

PF Mike Scott (18.2 FP/gm)  $3,900

SG Kent Bazemore (8.0 FP/gm)  $3,700

PF Adreian Payne  (0.0 FP/gm)  $3,600

SG Thabo Sefolosha (10.5 FP/gm)  $3,600

PG Shelvin Mack (12.1 FP/gm) $3,600

PF Mike Muscala  (8.1 FP/gm)  $3,500

C Pero Antic (10.2 FP/gm) $3,500

PG Dennis Schröder (2.2 FP/gm)  $3,500

SG John Jenkins (5.8 FP/gm)  $3,500

PF Elton Brand  (2.2 FP/gm)  $3,500

Notes:

  • A high value game occurs for a player, in theory, when they produce fantasy points equal to about 50% of cost. Meaning that a player who is listed a $8,000 would need to produce 40 FP to be a value on that given night.

  • Jeff Teague is thriving right now because he is scoring 20ppg and getting three steals per game. His cost right now is 7.9K, so even at career high levels of production, he is barely providing value at his current cost -- he'll probably go down by the time we look at this again next week, but the Hawk fan in me hopes he keeps rising.

  • Given the Hawks usual spread-the-wealth format, it's hard seeing anyone consistently producing 40 FP/gm over the course of the year. Millsap is listed at 8.3K, but with Horford and Teague sharing the fun, it's unlikely that Millsap would be worth rostering unless injury takes hold. Wait, forget I said that. No jinx, no jinx!

  • The most consistent value on the roster is Korver, who can earn his 4.6K pretty easily given that he scores and fills the box score fairly well and rarely turns the ball over, reducing the negative points. He needs to hit 23 FP to make value, and he gets close to that or exceeds every time. He'll be in the 5K range by next week I'd predict.

To get started: Head over to FanDuel today, register and check out the NBA games they have running.

Finally, as always, Here are specific rules. They include this: "In order to deposit money to play paid entry games you must be able to represent and warrant that you are not a resident of any of the following states: Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana or Washington."

But there are still free games on the site, in which you can take part if you are from those states, and I know most of our readers don't fall into this category, but if you do, you can still have some fun!
