After a strong showing in Las Vegas, Atlanta Hawks 2021 No. 20 overall pick Jalen Johnson was named to the NBA’s All-Summer League First Team Wednesday morning.

Johnson averaged 19 points and 9.5 rebounds while also showing great promise defensively across four games of action, as he sat the final contest of the Las Vegas trip. Atlanta has drawn rave reviews for their 2021 draft class that includes Johnson and the No. 48 selection, guard Sharife Cooper. Both players were once thought of as lottery talents before slipping down the board in the latter stages of the draft process.

Cooper also enjoyed a solid Summer League showing, averaging 14.8 points and 7.3 assists. It was an encouraging Summer League all around for the Hawks, who also saw growth from Skylar Mays. Mays is not currently under contract with Atlanta, but they have his restricted free agent rights and there’s an open spot on the roster for him if the two sides are able to agree to terms.

Atlanta finished the five-game journey with a 2-3 record, though Mays, Cooper and Johnson all missed a game. All eyes now turn to training camp, and the start of the preseason which begins Oct. 4 when the Hawks will take on the Miami Heat.

Stay tuned.
