Tuesday morning, word broke from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowksi that the Atlanta Hawks would play the New York Knicks in Madison Square Garden on Christmas Day at 12 pm ET. The NBA confirmed the report with their announcement later in the afternoon.

It’s the first of many schedule leaks for the Hawks, with more potentially coming today at 3 pm ET.

Atlanta has not played a game on Christmas Day since 1989, but it appears that will all change about four months from now. The Hawks and Knicks will do battle with a national audience following Atlanta’s 4-1 series win over New York in the first round of the 2021 NBA Playoffs.
The Knicks proved to be little match for Trae Young & Co., losing three straight games after taking Game 2 to even the series at 1-1. The Hawks were 2-1 in Madison Square Garden in the series, and Young averaged nearly 30 points and 10 assists per game vs. what was an elite Knick defense, in the regular season at least.
As stated above, more games are set to be leaked later in the day, so stay posted for that. The Hawks may very well have a national TV game in the opening week of the season as well coming off of their Eastern Conference Finals run.
