Preview: Hawks, Bucks set for Game 1 of Eastern Conference Finals

NBA: Milwaukee Bucks at Atlanta Hawks Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks will battle the Milwaukee Bucks for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday evening, with each team coming into the series off of a Game 7 road victory in the previous round. The Hawks of course went into Philadelphia and took down the 76ers, while Milwaukee went to Brooklyn and pulled out an overtime win over what was left of the Nets.

Atlanta looks to pull off a road win in Game 1 for the third consecutive series after pulling out wins over the New York Knicks in round one and the Sixers in the second round. The Bucks swept the Miami Heat in the first round before falling down 0-2 on the road to the Nets. From there, the Bucks won four of the next five games to take the series.

The series odds are as high as -480 in some places in favor of Milwaukee, with implied odds of over 80% for Milwaukee. The Hawks are being counted out yet again, and in a bigger way than they have been so far this postseason. It will take more spectacular play on both ends of the floor to make this a series, but it may seem smart to hesitate before putting anything past Atlanta on this postseason run.

Injuries

Notably, Trae Young is off of the report entirely, which is obviously a great sign for Atlanta. Kevin Huerter (left ankle soreness) is probable, while Bogdan Bogdanovic (right knee soreness) is questionable.

Another big note is Cam Reddish (right Achilles soreness) being upgraded to questionable. He has yet to appear in a game this postseason, and hasn’t played in general since Feb. 21. De’Andre Hunter and Brandon Goodwin remain out for the season.

For the Bucks, Donte DiVincenzo (ankle) is out for the season, while Jordan Nwora is probable.

The Line

The Bucks open as 7.5-point favorites over the Hawks in Game 1, which doesn’t come as much of surprise given that they have a two-time MVP in Giannis Antetokounmpo surrounded by other high quality two-way players. Milwaukee will be expected to take care of business on their home floor.
