Preview: Hawks, Sixers to finish season series Friday

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Philadelphia 76ers Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks (34-29) take on the Philadelphia 76ers (41-21) again Friday evening after a loss on Wednesday, and may again be short-handed this time around.

The Sixers blew out the understaffed Hawks on Wednesday, as it became apparent early on that Atlanta didn’t have enough to compete with a healthy 76ers group.

Atlanta sits just one game ahead of the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics for the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference, but does hold the tiebreaker with both clubs. Staying ahead of at least one of those teams seems crucial to avoiding the play-in at this point.

Philadelphia is still in position for the potential No. 1 seed in the East, as they sit just 1.5 games behind the Brooklyn Nets.

Both the Hawks and 76ers are 6-4 over their past 10 games, but Atlanta is still trying to get healthy while it seems Philadelphia has already been able to do so in advance of the postseason.

Friday’s game with decide the season series between the two clubs, for what it’s worth. The Hawks beat the Sixers in Atlanta back in January, while they obviously suffered the loss Wednesday night.

The injury report will be a big deal for this one, so stay tuned for all the updates throughout the day.

Injuries

For Atlanta, Tony Snell (right ankle sprain) is probable. Bogdan Bogdanovic (left hamstring soreness), Clint Capela (right heel pain) and Trae Young (left ankle sprain) are questionable. Young being upgraded to questionable is obviously the most notable thing there.

Kevin Huerter (left shoulder sprain), De’Andre Hunter (right knee soreness) and Cam Reddish (Achilles) remain out.

For the 76ers, the injury report is all clear Friday night, no players on the report.

The Line

Atlanta may again be significant underdogs on Friday due to their injuries. The 76ers opened as 9-point favorites, but the status of Young, Capela and Bogdanovic will obviously impact the final number.
