The Atlanta Hawks are rising in the Eastern Conference standings after four consecutive wins. Trae Young and company will aim to keep things rolling on Sunday evening when the Cleveland Cavaliers come to town.
While Cleveland has struggled on the whole this season, the Cavaliers are actually 2-0 against the Hawks, and they have won four straight matchups against Atlanta dating back to the 2019-20 season. The Hawks made a mess of the last matchup, losing in maddening fashion back in February, and revenge will be on Atlanta’s mind as a result.
The Cavs have the rest advantage after resting (and traveling) on Saturday, which is worth noting. However, Cleveland ranks dead-last in the NBA in offense, scoring only 104.3 points per 100 possessions, and that provides an edge for Atlanta on the defensive end. Beyond that, the matchup between Young and Collin Sexton always draws attention, and the Hawks have struggled on the second night of back-to-backs in the recent past.
Injuries
For Cleveland, old friend Taurean Prince (shoulder) is out of the lineup, joining Andre Drummond (personal) and Matthew Dellavedova (appendectomy) on the shelf for Sunday’s game. Darius Garland (groin) is listed as probable.
Atlanta’s injury report still includes absences for De’Andre Hunter, Cam Reddish and Kris Dunn. However, there are additional injuries to monitor before tip-off. Trae Young (left quad soreness) is listed as probable, but Clint Capela (left heel pain) and Onyeka Okongwu (right adductor soreness) are questionable. The Hawks do have some flexibility, but the team’s top two (pure) centers landing on the report could be ominous.
The Line
Even with the rest disadvantage, the Hawks are favored by six points in their home venue. That illustrates the perceived gap in talent between the two teams and, from there, also highlights Atlanta’s strong recent results.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
