The Atlanta Hawks have announced that they requested waivers on center Jahlil Okafor, who they signed ahead of training camp to potentially compete for one of their final roster spots.
Okafor did not play much after the Hawks’ first preseason game vs. the Miami Heat, only reemerging in the rotation after Gorgui Dieng suffered a hand injury in the first half of the Hawks’ third preseason game vs. the Memphis Grizzlies.
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot may now be the favorite to take the final roster spot for the Hawks heading into the season, though there is still time for another move to surface, of course. Luwawu-Cabarrot would provide depth on the wing as guys like Bodgan Bogdanovic, Kevin Huerter and De’Andre Hunter work their way towards feeling comfortable after entering camp managing ailments from last season.
In some positive news on the injury from, Trae Young and Hunter were both able to return to practice on Thursday per Nate McMillan, and Clint Capela did live work for the first time in training camp.
Some positive Hawks injury news: both Trae Young and De'Andre Hunter were able to participate in practice today, Nate McMillan says.
