It was an eventful game on Friday night when the Hawks picked up a 116-100 win over the Washington Wizards. As such the news of De’Andre Hunter leaving the game in the second quarter with an injury could have been missed in the fray of technical fouls and ejections.
News today arrives by way of an announcement from the Hawks that Hunter will miss game action with a busy schedule ahead for Atlanta:
“Hunter underwent an MRI and medical review this morning at the Emory Sports Medicine Complex, which revealed articular wear and tear in his right knee. Following a non-surgical procedure this morning, Hunter will miss Monday’s game vs. the Los Angeles Lakers.”
It seems safe to assume that Hunter will miss more than one game since with the news that he will be reviewed “next week” after which an update will be provided.
Following the Lakers game Monday, the Hawks have another home back-to-back this week, with a game Wednesday vs. the Dallas Mavericks followed by a Thursday evening contest vs. the Utah Jazz.
Hunter, in the midst of a surging sophomore season, will be missed as the Hawks take on some of the league’s top competition. He is the team’s second leading scorer (17.2 points per game) and has been making an early season case for the league’s Most Improved Player award, as well as some potential All-Star consideration.
Stay tuned.
