UPDATE: The Hawks released an updated injury report. De’Andre Hunter is available to play but Trae Young is OUT with an ankle contusion. Dewayne Dedmon (trade considerations), Cam Reddish and Bruno Fernando are out.
For Boston, Kemba Walker will play. Jaylen Brown and Gordon Hayward are out.
The Atlanta Hawks have been busy, ranging from several trades to a road win in Minnesota this week. With the dust settling after the trade deadline, things should be a bit calmer for a few months but, on Friday evening, the Hawks will continue their 82-game journey with a difficult road test in Boston.
Clint Capela, still battling a heel injury and not yet with the team, won’t be walking through that door just yet. Dewayne Dedmon could conceivably play less than 24 hours after his acquisition became official, but there are hoops to jump through before that can happen. In addition, Atlanta’s injury report is full once again, leaving Lloyd Pierce with limited options in an already challenging spot.
Trae Young (right ankle contusion), Kevin Huerter (adductor pain) and Jeff Teague (left knee pain) are probable to play. However, De’Andre Hunter (left ankle sprain) is questionable after returning on Wednesday, with Cam Reddish (concussion) and Bruno Fernando (left calf strain) officially listed as doubtful.
As such, players like Damian Jones and Treveon Graham could see extended time in this match-up. With that said, the Celtics are also facing myriad injury issues. Daniel Theis (ankle) has been ruled out, with Jaylen Brown (ankle), Gordon Hayward (foot) and Kemba Walker (knee) listed as questionable. Walker and Marcus Smart missed the meeting between these same two teams on Monday.
It is difficult to project what might happen in this spot without further injury information. As such, only a few outlets have point spreads available, and all lean in the direction of Boston by 8-9 points. Still, the Hawks have been quite competitive against the Celtics, and it will be interesting to see what transpires in the first game after the deadline.
