Breaking down the Hawks switching-based defense against Orlando

The Atlanta Hawks lost to the Orlando Magic on Friday night in their preseason opener. Of course, the final score is not all that important in exhibition games but, with a remade roster, it was a point of interest to see what they might be doing from a scheme and X’s and O’s perspective.

Perhaps the most interesting thing we saw from Lloyd Pierce and his staff in this game was a lot of switching on the defensive end of the court.

So, I thought I would break down a defensive possession to highlight what they were doing from a switching standpoint. You can see it in video form below.

There you have it.

We won’t have to wait long to see of the Hawks will do more of this in their next preseason contest, as they will match up with the Magic again on Sunday at 5 pm ET at State Farm Arena.
