In early January, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported that Trae Young was set to accept invitations to participate in both the Skills Challenge and Three-Point Contest NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago. Since then, Young was voted as an All-Star starter and announced as an obvious participant in the Rising Stars game. However, Young will only participate in one event on Saturday evening, with the NBA announcing its participants and the Atlanta Hawks guard landing in the Three-Point Contest.
He will be joined by Wizards forward Davis Bertans, Hornets guard Devonte Graham, Nets wing Joe Harris, Kings guard Buddy Hield, Bulls guard Zach LaVine, Blazers guard Damian Lillard and Heat wing Duncan Robinson.
The event will feature new rules and a new look this year, with a full explanation of the 2020 layout available here. One of the changes includes shooting a selected number of shots from six feet beyond the arc which, in short, should help Young, who is well-known for his unlimited range.
In 2019, Young was the runner-up in the skills challenge, losing the final to Jayson Tatum in close fashion, and he’ll look to add a three-point title to his mantle this time around.
