Update: De’Andre Hunter is OUT for the Summer League finale.
The Atlanta Hawks dropped their last pre-scheduled game in Las Vegas on Thursday but, after compiling a 1-3 record, Greg Foster and his squad must play out the string in the consolation round. Late on Thursday evening, the NBA announced that the Hawks would do so in a (late) game on Friday evening, with Atlanta taking on the San Antonio Spurs.
Given back-to-back absences, it would be a mild surprise if No. 4 pick De’Andre Hunter took the floor in the finale, though it is important to note that he has not been officially ruled out at the time of this post. All indications, both public and private, are that Hunter’s sore knee is “nothing serious” but, in the same breath, there is no reason to push the prized rookie into action in this setting without 100 percent health.
Elsewhere, the Hawks will be evaluating a few players with an eye toward 2019-20 and beyond. Jaylen Adams faces a non-guaranteed contract for next season and has struggled to this point. Bruno Fernando is on board for three seasons, however, and he will be joined (at least for 2019-20) by Charlie Brown on a Two-Way contract.
It may not be exciting but, for the last time until October, fans can watch the Atlanta Hawks in an officially sanctioned NBA basketball game on Friday. There is something to be said for that.
Stay tuned throughout the day and night for all the latest and, as always, we encourage you to use the comments below as a “game thread” for today’s contest.
