Update: The Pacers will be without Bojan Bogdanovic, Wesley Matthews, Domantas Sabonis, Myles Turner, and Thaddeus Young for Wednesday’s game. As a result, the Hawks are now four-point favorites in the game.
The 2018-19 season has (almost) come and gone, as the Atlanta Hawks will take the floor for the final time when they host the Indiana Pacers at State Farm Arena on Wednesday night. Atlanta has little to play for in either direction, as they’ve long been out of the playoff hunt and have cemented themselves in the fifth spot in May’s lottery drawing for the 2019 NBA Draft. Indiana is in a similar situation after having already locked up the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The Pacers will open their playoff schedule in Boston, likely on Sunday.
The Hawks’ young stars Trae Young and John Collins are off the injury report after resting against Milwaukee on Sunday and look to be available for selection by head coach Lloyd Pierce, but there are still a number of injuries keeping their rotation short. Dewayne Dedmon (left ankle), Miles Plumlee (left knee), Alex Poythress (right ankle), and Omari Spellman (left ankle) have been ruled out for the final contest of the year, while center Deyonta Davis is questionable with right knee soreness.
Indiana has been without superstar guard Victor Oladipo for much of the season after he injured his right knee in January. Wesley Matthews will also miss out on the closing game with a sore right toe as the team holds him out for their upcoming playoff run. Matthews had been dealing with a hamstring problem as well, making it all the more likely that he wasn’t going to play in this game. Other than those two guards, the Pacers’ injury report is clean, as Tyreke Evans is slated to return after missing Sunday’s game against Brooklyn.
The good folks in the Nevada desert have installed the Pacers as 1.5-point favorites, though it’s hard to tell just how much the line can change based on late scratches on both sides. Given that neither team has anything to play for, any point spread is largely in flux until starting lineups and inactives are submitted.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest, including updated information on the injury front.
