Preview: Hawks host Bucks in Sunday matinee

An early tip-off.

NBA: Milwaukee Bucks at Atlanta Hawks Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

In contrast to much of the season, offense was the issue for the Atlanta Hawks on Friday evening, as the team’s three-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers. After a day off on Saturday, the Hawks will return to action on Sunday afternoon (with a very early tip-off) and the sledding won’t be easier against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Bucks enter this contest with the NBA’s best record and, to put it plainly, Mike Budenholzer’s team has been fantastic this season. While Milwaukee hasn’t been quite as dominant during the second half of the campaign, the Bucks have won four in a row as they arrive and the visitors toppled the Hawks in Atlanta back in mid-January.

It is important to note that Milwaukee may be without its best player (and MVP candidate) in Giannis Antetokounmpo, as the do-everything forward is listed as questionable with an ankle issue. Beyond that, the Bucks will be short-handed even if their leader takes the floor, with Malcolm Brogdon, Tony Snell, Nikola Mirotic, Pau Gasol and Donte DiVincenzo already ruled out.

For Atlanta, the injury report isn’t much cleaner. Dewayne Dedmon (left ankle soreness) is officially out for Sunday’s contest and he might be joined by Kent Bazemore (left adductor strain) and/or Taurean Prince (bilateral foot soreness), as the wing duo is listed as questionable.

Given the roster uncertainty on both sides, it is tough to gauge expectations for this particular game. That is doubly true when considering Antetokounmpo’s status and, as a result, the good folks in Las Vegas haven’t weighed in with a point spread at the time of this post.

Regardless, the Bucks are a well-coached, talented bunch that is capable of winning even at less than full strength and the Hawks will have their hands full. This should be an entertaining battle in any context, and you’re encouraged to stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest from State Farm Arena.
