Preview: Hawks return home to face red-hot Rockets

Back at home with tough sledding ahead.

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Houston Rockets Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks failed to pick up a win over the weekend, dropping contests to the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic. While there were bright spots during the back-to-back set, the Hawks will have an uphill battle to avoid a three-game losing streak, as Atlanta will take on the floor on Tuesday in a home game against the red-hot Houston Rockets.

James Harden and company have won 11 of 12 games and that kind of run speaks for itself. The Rockets own recent wins over the Sixers, Raptors and Celtics, with a single-digit loss to the Warriors as their own blemish. With that as the backdrop, Houston enters as a 7.5-point favorite, even on the road in Atlanta.

From an injury standpoint, both teams are relatively clean, with only Omari Spellman on the shelf among rotation players for either squad. That leads to an interesting situation in which the Hawks will be challenged to slow the duo of Harden and Chris Paul, with the simultaneous prompt to score at a high level against Houston’s switching defense.

Regardless, it will be an intriguing measuring stick for the Hawks in their home building and fun should be had by all.
