The Atlanta Hawks put together one of their best offensive performances of the season on Wednesday, dominating the Memphis Grizzlies behind swift and effective ball movement. After two days off, Lloyd Pierce’s team will aim for a third straight victory on Saturday and, in the process, the Hawks will also look to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Boston Celtics.
Atlanta has struggled mightily against Boston this season, losing three contests by a total of 47 points. The most recent battle between the two teams was the most competitive, however, as the Hawks tested the Celtics on a night best remembered for a dust-up between Marcus Smart and DeAndre’ Bembry.
Much has changed since then, of course, with two months of time between games, but this should be an interesting face-off. Boston enters on a bit of a hot streak after four wins in five games and, while that may not seem like much for a team with all kinds of hype and attention, the Celtics have been an up-and-down squad this season. On Atlanta’s side, the team’s offense has been zooming (to the tune of a top-five mark in the NBA in the 11 games after the All-Star break) and, along with that, the Hawks have taken care of the ball at a level not seen at any other time this season.
On the injury front, the visiting team will be without the trio of Omari Spellman, Alex Poythress and Miles Plumlee, but the rest of the roster is healthy and available. For Boston, Terry Rozier, Daniel Theis and Guerschon Yabusele are all questionable with illness but, in terms of full-fledged absences, the Celtics appear to be in good shape.
Unsurprisingly, the Celtics enter this game as 10.5-point favorites in Las Vegas and, by all accounts, Boston would be “expected” to win this game at home. The Hawks have been quite frisky, however, and a lot of doors open if Lloyd Pierce’s team plays its “A” game on the offensive end of the floor.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
