John Collins is the betting favorite to win the 2019 NBA Slam Dunk Contest

Let’s get weird.

NBA: Washington Wizards at Atlanta Hawks Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

John Collins and Trae Young will be prominently featured during NBA All-Star weekend later in February, with both players taking part in the Rising Stars Challenge and following that up with an appearance on Saturday night. Young is one of eight intriguing participants in the Skills Competition and, while that isn’t exactly the “headline” event of the night, there will be plenty of interest from fans of the Atlanta Hawks.

However, Collins is a part of the four-man field for this year’s dunk contest and, as of Wednesday, it is now clear that he is the betting favorite to bring home the glory. The good folks at BetOnline place Collins at the top of the heap from an odds perspective:

  • John Collins +150
  • Dennis Smith +225
  • Miles Bridges +225
  • Hamidou Diallo +450

For good measure, another off-shore sportsbook in Bovada.lv does the same

  • John Collins +130
  • Miles Bridges +250
  • Dennis Smith +250
  • Hamidou Diallo +400

Obviously, there is a lot of uncertainty here, with Collins never participating in the dunk contest (at least at the NBA level) before. Still, there is reason to believe that the hyper-athletic big man will be a force to be reckon with in Charlotte and, if you would like to bet on him to finish the night on top, there are avenues to do so.

Stay tuned.
