Preview: Hawks visit Pacers for post-Thanksgiving battle

The Atlanta Hawks played relatively well for 42 of 48 minutes on Wednesday in Milwaukee. It wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding of an extended losing streak, though, and Lloyd Pierce’s team will again try to pick up a badly need victory against the Indiana Pacers on Friday evening.

The good folks in Las Vegas install the Hawks as 10.5-point road underdogs in this game, illustrating the difficult nature of this particular match-up. Though Indiana hasn’t played a grueling schedule in the early going, the Pacers are seemingly rounding into form, winning four straight games and eight of their last ten contests. To make things even more challenging, Indiana spent Thanksgiving at home after a win over the Jazz, while the Hawks had to travel, albeit a short distance from Milwaukee.

From an injury standpoint, there is some uncertainty with Cam Reddish, as the rookie swingman is questionable to play with a left wrist sprain. The rest of Atlanta’s injury report — with the exception of John Collins and Kevin Huerter — is clean in this game. That is a positive subplot, but the Hawks remain short-handed in the grand scheme, even with potentially the best player on the floor in Trae Young.

With an even more difficult match-up against the Houston Rockets on tap for Saturday, there is some urgency for the Hawks to rebound in this game. Time will tell as to whether that will happen.
