After a valiant effort on Saturday evening, the Atlanta Hawks will return to State Farm Arena on Monday night. This time around, it will be Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves on the other side of the floor, with both teams aiming to skip losing skids.
Atlanta has dropped six in a row (and 12 of 14) at this juncture, though it has to be noted that the combination of high-profile absences and a difficult schedule set the scene. The Hawks enter Monday’s game as only a 4.5-point home underdog and, for comparison, that is the narrowest point spread since Atlanta hosted the Sacramento Kings on Nov. 8.
With that in mind, this trends toward being a “winnable” game for the Hawks, particularly with the Wolves cooling off in recent days. Minnesota has lost four of five after a strong start and, in general, this isn’t a team that will overwhelm the Hawks with high-end talent all over the floor. Towns is certainly a difficult match-up for anyone as a legitimate superstar center but, aside from that, the Wolves aren’t especially dynamic on either end of the floor.
The Hawks will, once again, be without Kevin Huerter and John Collins, but only Cam Reddish (left wrist sprain) joins them on the injury report. The rookie swingman is listed as questionable as of Monday morning, with more updates to come throughout the day.
Stay tuned throughout the day and be encouraged to utilize the comments below as a “game thread” for the action.
