Preview: Hawks travel to Denver to face streaking Nuggets

A tough one in the ‘mile high’ city.

After a 2-0 start, the Atlanta Hawks have lost six out of seven games and, along the way, prolific big man John Collins was sidelined as a result of an NBA-mandated suspension. Needless to say, the terrain has been difficult for Atlanta but, on Tuesday, the Hawks have the opportunity to right ship against the Denver Nuggets.

Unfortunately for Atlanta, the match-up isn’t exactly favorable on paper, with the Nuggets favored by 12 points by the good folks in Las Vegas. At least some of that stems from the fact that Denver is playing at home and, in 2018-19, Atlanta’s only trip to the ‘mile high’ city ended in a 45-point defeat. Beyond that, the Nuggets are red-hot at the moment, winning four straight games and, aside from an illness for Malik Beasley, Denver’s injury report is notably clean at this juncture in the campaign.

On the Hawks side, there is more uncertainty with injuries. Cam Reddish (shoulder) is listed as probable but Allen Crabbe (knee) and Alex Len (left ankle sprain) are questionable as of Tuesday morning. Vince Carter (personal) will miss his second straight game and, in addition, Evan Turner and Chandler Parsons will join Collins in missing this contest.

It is fair to note that the Hawks always have a puncher’s chance with Trae Young at the helm of the offense, though, and Atlanta will need its best effort in order to pull off the upset in an unfriendly environment. The Nuggets haven’t quite clicked offensively to this point, ranking in the bottom 10 of the NBA in offensive rating, but this is certainly an intriguing test for the visiting team in the midst of a lengthy road trip.
