On the heels of a late night loss in Portland, the Atlanta Hawks will take the floor against another playoff-caliber team from the Western Conference on Monday evening. The Los Angeles Clippers will play host to an intriguing face-off and the match-up will mark the final battle between the two teams this season.
In late November, the Clippers emerged with an 8-point victory over the Hawks at State Farm Arena and, while much has changed, Los Angeles is still playing quality basketball. Doc Rivers’ team certainly cooled off after a lights-out start to the season but the Clippers have won three straight games as the Hawks arrive, including a Saturday afternoon win over the Sacramento Kings.
The Hawks will own the rest advantage in this spot, as Atlanta spent Sunday traveling from Portland to southern California. That theoretical edge is mitigated by the presence of home-court advantage for the Clippers, though, and the good folks in Las Vegas install the Hawks as sizable underdogs as a result.
On the injury front, things are quiet for the Hawks and that is obviously a positive thing. Kevin Huerter returned to action on Saturday and, for this game, he is off the injury report entirely. Kent Bazemore (right ankle sprain) and Miles Plumlee (left knee pain) remain out of the lineup but, otherwise, Lloyd Pierce will have his full complement of players available in this challenging match-up.
The Clippers have been without standout forward Danilo Gallinari over the last five games, as the veteran is sidelined with low back spasms. With that said, the team has been (very) successful with four wins in the last five games and, aside from Gallinari, Los Angeles has a clean injury report in their own right.
In the grand scheme, this is a difficult match-up for the Hawks but one that isn’t insurmountable if Atlanta plays at an optimal level. Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest, including PTH’s own Jeff Siegel on the scene from Staples Center.
