After a hot start on Wednesday evening, the bottom fell out for the Atlanta Hawks and the end result was a lopsided defeat at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. The Hawks will continue their three-game road trip with the finale on Friday evening and, after a day of rest, Atlanta will hope to find energy in reserve against the Philadelphia 76ers.
In the first meeting of the season between the two teams, the Sixers prevailed by 21 points and that contest served as Lloyd Pierce’s return to Philadelphia in late October. With that said, a lot has changed on both sides. The Sixers now deploy another All-Star in Jimmy Butler and, on the Hawks’ side, John Collins was not available for the first face-off. Throw in the absence of Kent Bazemore and Taurean Prince and, well, there isn’t much to take away from a game that transpired more than two months ago.
Still, the Sixers are seen as substantial favorites (12.5 points) in this spot, as they boast the three best players involved in the game with Butler, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. Philadelphia flopped in their last outing, suffering a double-digit loss in Washington, but the Sixers won four in a row before that and this is a difficult match-up on paper for the undermanned Hawks.
From an injury perspective, the Hawks will (again) be without Bazemore, Prince and Miles Plumlee, with Tyler Dorsey listed as probable with a left ankle sprain. On the Philly side, the pivot point is J.J. Redick’s status, as the outstanding shooting guard missed the team’s last game and is listed as questionable with back stiffness.
In many ways, this will be an interesting basketball game and you can stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
