UPDATE: Tyler Dorsey (hip tightness) will not play on Sunday for Atlanta. John Collins is in the starting lineup.
Saturday’s Las Vegas opener did not double as a victory for the Atlanta Hawks but, in many ways, it was the most encouraging Summer League performance from the squad. On the heels of that effort, Chris Jent’s team will return to the hardwood on Sunday for a match-up against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Portland’s roster may not be quite as sexy as that of the New York Knicks but there are a few players to watch on the opposing roster, including Anfernee Simons, Gary Trent Jr. and others. Of course, Hawks fans will be (much) more interested in what Atlanta will deploy in this spot and all eyes are on whether John Collins will continue to see action on the floor.
Collins was electric in Saturday’s game and, in short, appears to be vastly overqualified in this particular setting. Still, there is some potential value to further establishing chemistry with Young, Omari Spellman and others and that could lead to further playing time for the sophomore big man from Wake Forest.
Elsewhere, Antonius Cleveland saw extended action at the power forward spot in Saturday’s game and that is a wrinkle to monitor moving forward. It will also be intriguing to see if Jent elects to play a deeper rotation, as Saturday’s game featured only Atlanta’s actual roster players and Jock Landale, who saw time ahead of 2017 second round pick Alpha Kaba in the pecking order.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest from Las Vegas and be kind to one another in the comments below.
