Prior to the 2018 NBA Draft, one of the largest sports books in the world opened the Atlanta Hawks with the league’s worst odds (1,000-to-1) to claim the 2019 NBA Championship. Given the team’s performance in 2017-18, that wasn’t an overwhelming surprise but, on Monday, online bookmaker BetOnline.ag painted a slightly more favorable picture for Lloyd Pierce’s team.
While the Hawks are still long shots to bring home the Larry O’Brien Trophy, four teams are listed with worse odds than Atlanta at this particular outlet. The Nets, Bulls, Grizzlies and Magic sit at 500-to-1, with the Hawks “improving” to 250-to-1 in the early stages of free agency.
This could simply be a discrepancy between experts that make these lines or, perhaps, the Hawks have a little bit of additional buzz after picking up Trae Young in the draft. Regardless, it isn’t quite as favorable to wager on the Hawks at BetOnline.ag as it is at a prominent Las Vegas book, so make wise choices if you elect to pull the trigger.
