Preview: Hawks close road schedule with Sunday matinee in Boston

This one should be interesting.

NBA: Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks picked up an upset victory on Friday evening and, with something of a quick turnaround, the team faces another challenge on the road on Sunday afternoon. The Boston Celtics play host to Mike Budenholzer’s team for a matinee contest and it doubles as the final road game of the season for Atlanta.

As you may expect, the Celtics enter this game as significant favorites and that is the nature of the beast when facing a top-two seed on the road. Still, Boston has been battling all kinds of injury concerns, with Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward ruled out for the season and all kinds of dings for other players like Marcus Smart.

The Celtics were able to get a win over the Bulls on Friday in their weakened state, though, and Sunday’s game will feature a return of both Al Horford and Jayson Tatum, with Marcus Morris (rest) taking the day off.

The Hawks have injuries of their own but Taurean Prince and Dewayne Dedmon, who were previously on the injury report, were removed in advance of this game. That leaves Atlanta with its best health situation in quite some time and, despite the uphill battle, the Hawks are in a position to compete with their available talent.

Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
