The Washington Wizards are going to make the Eastern Conference Playoffs but, on the whole, it has been a disappointing season for the team from the nation’s capital. The Wizards have always had a reputation for no-showing at inopportune times and, in 2017-2018, that occurred once against the Atlanta Hawks and a few additional times along the way.
On Friday evening, the Wizards will play host to the Hawks in the fourth and final game of the season series between the two teams. To this point, Washington owns a 2-1 series lead but, back on Dec. 27, the Hawks ran away with a 14-point win over their division rival and, while the roster is very different now, that could be instructive.
The Wizards are also coming off a back-to-back, as they took on the Cleveland Cavaliers (on the road) on Thursday in a nationally televised affair. It remains to be seen if that will have any effect but, unless Washington wants to target the No. 1 seed Toronto Raptors by slipping to the No. 8 spot, they have every incentive to put forth maximum effort in this spot.
With that said, all indications are that John Wall may sit out this game on the second night of a back-to-back and the Hawks could be short-handed as well. Taurean Prince is listed as questionable with back soreness and, if both Wall and Prince don’t go, it will be interesting to see how the teams adjust.
Washington will sizable Las Vegas favorites either way, though, and the Hawks will be looking to play spoiler. Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
