With a decade-long playoff streak coming to an end, the Atlanta Hawks will close their 2017-2018 schedule on Tuesday evening with a home game against the red-hot Philadelphia 76ers. There will, of course, be plenty of time to discuss greater takeaways for the campaign but, with 48 minutes until offseason mode commences, simply enjoying real, live basketball might be the best course of action.
Still, there are ramifications to this particular game for both teams. Philadelphia is in the midst of a battle for the No. 3 seed in the East and, as a result, the Sixers are expected to deploy their full arsenal of talent. Joel Embiid remains on the sideline due to injury but Ben Simmons acts as the Rookie of the Year favorite for a reason and he is flanked by Robert Covington, JJ Redick and No. 1 overall Markelle Fultz, who looks to be rounding into form.
On the Hawks side, injuries are still a factor, with Kent Bazemore, Dennis Schroder, Malcolm Delaney and Jaylen Morris sidelined. Still, there is no indication at this point that Atlanta will be resting any further members of the rotation, leaving the team in a competitive position.
The good folks in Las Vegas install the Sixers as 9.5-point favorites at this early juncture and, given the ping-pong race, many Hawks fans won’t be upset to see that. Still, Atlanta is riding a two-game winning streak and, at the very least, the Hawks will be expected to put their best foot forth as the regular season comes to an end.
Stay tuned throughout the day and night for all the latest from Philips Arena.
