UPDATE: The Hawks will waive Okaro White, leaving Atlanta with only $150,000 (approximately) in additional salary cap space and a favor to Babbitt for their trouble.

Much of the pre-trade deadline chatter for the Atlanta Hawks has included Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova but, on Thursday afternoon, the team reportedly pulled the trigger on a deal including another veteran player on an expiring contract. Marc Spears of ESPN reports that Luke Babbitt is on his way to join the Miami Heat with the Hawks adding 25-year-old forward Okaro White.

Shortly thereafter, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald confirmed the initial report, with a tidbit about ongoing interest from the Heat in Marco Belinelli.

White appeared in only six games this season before suffering a broken left foot and he is not under contract beyond the 2017-2018 season. The Hawks could make him an Arenas-limited restricted free agent (with a qualifying offer likely to fall below $2 million), though, adding some intrigue to the proceedings for the defensive-minded forward.

As for Babbitt, he finishes his Hawks tenure with 37 games played (nine starts) and will provide Miami with another floor-spacing option in the frontcourt.

For the Hawks, this is also a move that creates a bit of additional salary cap space.

Stay tuned throughout the day for more information.
