UPDATE: The Hawks announced absences for Dennis Schroder, Kent Bazemore and Ersan Ilyasova.
Only a few hours have passed since the Atlanta Hawks and Detroit Pistons shared an NBA floor and, on Wednesday, the two teams will be at it again. The Hawks fell to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday evening but, prior to that, Atlanta triumphed over Detroit at Philips Arena in impressive fashion and Mike Budenholzer’s team will be looking to recapture that performance in the final game before the All-Star break.
In that contest on Sunday, Blake Griffin struggled mightily and, when combined with strong offense from the home team, the Hawks were able to take advantage. It will be interesting to see if Ersan Ilyasova and company will be able to slow down the All-Star forward again in this match-up but, without an expectation to do so, potent offense will be key against the Pistons.
Since transitioning to a new starting lineup (including Dewayne Dedmon) and away from Marco Belinelli in the rotation, the Hawks have strung together improved results. At the moment, the Pistons are seen by Las Vegas as significant, 8.5-point favorites in this spot but, if Atlanta can live up to its recent standard, the “first half” finale could be a closer game than the experts believe.
