The Atlanta Hawks ran into a buzzsaw led by LeBron James and Kyle Korver on Friday night and, after a day of rest on Saturday, the team is back in action on Sunday afternoon. This time, the Detroit Pistons arrive and, while the two teams have squared off twice already this season, the visitors look quite different with Blake Griffin in the fold.
The Pistons did drop their last contest to the Clippers but, prior to that, Detroit seemed invigorated with Griffin in the fold and this looks to be a playoff-bound team. For Atlanta, this is an opportunity to face an opponent that relies heavily on the frontcourt and, by proxy, the Hawks can utilize their depth at the big man positions.
While there are plenty of issues with the Hawks continuing to lean on Miles Plumlee in the starting lineup, this is a favorable match-up for that deployment in that he can be utilized to bang with Andre Drummond on the interior. Beyond that, though, it should be interesting to evaluate John Collins and Dewayne Dedmon against a talented opponent and the perimeter match-up, if anything, might even lean in Atlanta’s direction given Detroit’s talent and injury issues.
