The Atlanta Hawks picked up an impressive win on Saturday night, outlasting the Miami Heat in an offense-driven battle. After a two-day break from game action, the Hawks are back on the road on Tuesday, with a match-up against the Charlotte Hornets on the first night of a back-to-back set.
The Hawks will likely be without starting small forward Taurean Prince in this spot, as the third-year player is listed as doubtful with an ankle sprain suffered against Miami. In his absence, head coach Lloyd Pierce will likely deploy Kevin Huerter and DeAndre’ Bembry in larger roles but, at this juncture, there is no indication as to who will replace Prince in a starting lineup that might include Omari Spellman for the second straight game.
Elsewhere, the headline match-up of the evening comes at point guard, where Trae Young faces off against Hornets star Kemba Walker. At this juncture, Young isn’t exactly at an advantage against Walker in an overall sense, but the rookie guard has flashed brilliance in the early stages of his career and the Hawks will need a potentially explosive night from Young in order to pull off an upset on the road.
The Hawks are currently listed as 11.5-point underdogs on the road here and, while that isn’t a surprise, it does paint a picture of the uphill battle facing Atlanta. Charlotte hasn’t been spectacular this season, posting a 5-5 record, but the Hawks operating without both Prince and John Collins makes this a big-time challenge and it will be interesting to see how the team responds.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
