Update: Kevin Huerter (mid back strain) and Jeremy Lin (left ankle sprain) are listed as questionable for Wednesday night’s game.
The Atlanta Hawks are riding a winning streak. On Tuesday, the team held off a late charge from the Miami Heat on the way to a victory and, previous to that, Atlanta was able to halt a 10-game losing streak with a home win over the Charlotte Hornets. While it isn’t noteworthy for most NBA teams to win back-to-back games, it is certainly so for the Hawks and, on Wednesday, Lloyd Pierce’s team will face a quick turnaround in an interesting spot.
The Hawks head to Charlotte to take on the Hornets in something of a “rematch,” even with the caveat that both teams have faced different opponents since their battle on Sunday. Charlotte bounced back in a big way with a home win over the Milwaukee Bucks and, perhaps more importantly, the Hornets enjoyed a day off on Tuesday while the Hawks were in a 48-minute fight against the Heat.
As a result of that confluence, Charlotte enters this game as a double-digit favorite in Las Vegas and, in short, it is always a challenge for a team to play on back-to-back nights, especially when both come on the road. Still, the Hawks did a strong job executing against the Hornets when the teams last met and part of Atlanta’s ability to get the win stemmed from holding Kemba Walker under control throughout the game.
It will be interesting to see how the Hawks fare in that particular venture this time around (particularly if Lin is unable to play) but Atlanta’s offense seems to be clicking at a higher overall level than at any time this season and that certainly helps. As always, we’ll be here throughout the night for all the latest and you can find the information for Wednesday’s game below.
Stay tuned.
