Vince Carter has brought back his old sneaker, the Nike Shox BB4, and will be wearing them for the remainder of the 2018-2019 NBA season. He originally made this shoe famous back in the 2000 Olympics, when he amazingly dunked over a 7-footer Frederic Weis.

Nike’s Shox technology, placed in the heel of the shoe, was inspired by rocket launchers. Sticking with the space theme, the upper of the BB4 was designed with astronaut suits in mind. Today, Nike still uses the Shox technology in some of their running shoes.

Nike has said nothing regarding a potential retro release of the Nike Shox BB4, but with Vince Carter most likely nearing the end of the career, common sense dictates it could be in the works sometime soon.

“The success of the dunk started the legend of the shoes. But I myself went to another level with them, too. I became a star player in the BB4,” Carter says.
