The Atlanta Hawks will not navigate their five-game preseason schedule unblemished, as the team suffered its first defeat in Memphis on Friday evening. Lloyd Pierce and company will be back in action on Sunday afternoon, though, and there is plenty of intrigue for this particular match-up.

In an odd twist, the Oklahoma City Thunder announced a “home” preseason game back in March and the Hawks will serve as the opponent. While that is noteworthy in itself, this contest also serves as an opportunity for Atlanta to face off against former point guard Dennis Schröder, who projects to be in the starting lineup with Russell Westbrook on the shelf with injury.

The battle between Schröder and Trae Young will grab the headlines and with good reason. However, there are other story lines to monitor, with the Hawks aiming to sort out something of a rotation for the regular season.

Beyond that, the injury report is interesting in this spot, with John Collins (left ankle soreness) and Jeremy Lin (rest) joining a few players (Dewayne Dedmon, Daniel Hamilton, Justin Anderson) still on the shelf with injury. There is no public indication at this point that Collins’ ankle issue is serious but, at this juncture, taking a cautious approach (at the very least) is the only rational move and that would further explain his early exit from Friday’s game in Memphis.

Taurean Prince is off the injury report for Atlanta after a one-game absence, as the starting small forward rejoined the team in Tulsa for practice on Saturday. He will face off directly against Paul George in this spot and, in short, that is an interesting test.
