Preview: Hawks wrap home preseason slate against Spurs

One more at Tech.

NBA: San Antonio Spurs at Atlanta Hawks Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Hawks will complete a brief, two-game home preseason slate at Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion on Wednesday evening. After a strong showing in the opener under the same roof, the Hawks will face off with the San Antonio Spurs in another tune-up for the regular season.

While there are plenty of story lines to monitor, the Hawks will be without four players in this spot. Dewayne Dedmon, Justin Anderson and Daniel Hamilton continue to recover from injury but, on Tuesday, the Hawks announced that John Collins (ankle soreness) will not play for the second consecutive game.

Collins left Friday’s game in Memphis at the halftime break and, while it is unclear how serious the ankle ailment is, the second-year big man will remain on the shelf for at least one night. On one hand, there is no urgency to deploy a core piece in the preseason and caution is the best route. On the other, it definitely isn’t good news that Collins remains sidelined and his status for Friday’s finale will be interesting.

After a one-game absence (rest), Jeremy Lin returns and the Hawks will enter this game with a near-full complement of perimeter options. On the Spurs side, life without Dejounte Murray (torn ACL) begins and, for big-picture basketball fans, San Antonio’s roster overhaul should provide some additional intrigue.

Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest from McCamish Pavilion.
