With Dewayne Dedmon and Mike Muscala back as healthy members of the rotation, the Atlanta Hawks are as healthy as they have been in a long time. However, DeAndre’ Bembry continues to miss time with a groin injury and, on Sunday, KL Chouinard of Hawks.com brought word from Mike Budenholzer that the second-year swingman has “a long way to go” before returning.
Budenholzer reportedly indicated that Bembry’s ailment was “nagging” before becoming more significant and, while Marco Belinelli will reportedly return on Monday against the Spurs, the prognosis isn’t ideal for the former St. Joseph’s standout.
I'll have a story and some notes from Hawks practice in a little while. While Marco Belinelli should play tomorrow vs. Spurs, it looks like DeAndre Bembry is still a ways away from playing.— Chris Vivlamore (@CVivlamoreAJC) January 14, 2018
It has been something of a lost season for Bembry, as the 23-year-old also missed extensive time at the beginning of the campaign with injury. After returning, he was in the rotation for approximately one month before seemingly falling out of favor and, since then, the injury popped up to fully sideline him.
Bembry shouldn’t be written off as a future piece for the Hawks but, with each passing day of absence, his timeline likely slows and there is real development needed when he reaches health again. Stay tuned.
