After an encouraging stretch in which the Atlanta Hawks rattled off three consecutive home victories, the road has not been kind to the team. Dennis Schröder and company have dropped the first four games on the west coast and, on Wednesday evening, the Hawks face a tough challenge in the form of the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center.
While the Nuggets are just 21-19 overall this season, Denver is a sparkling 14-4 within the confines of its home arena and, in short, that continues a trend from previous years. Atlanta’s opponent will be operating without old friend Paul Millsap but, with that said, the Nuggets will enter this contest as a significant favorite, especially given the length of the road trip and the unfriendly environment.
Can the Hawks compete here? Absolutely. When Atlanta plays well, they have displayed the ability to keep up with playoff-bound teams and, even if the isn’t operating at that level right now, there is some optimism in that regard. Still, finishing up a five-game trip in this particular environment (at altitude, etc.) is perilous and it will be interesting to see how the team responds.
Beyond that, there are rotation questions to be answered. How much will we see of Dewayne Dedmon? Will Miles Plumlee continue to start/appear with Mike Muscala (and Dedmon) back? How much will John Collins and Tyler Dorsey play? Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest and let’s answer these questions together.
