Earlier in the week, the good folks at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook updated their odds to claim the 2018 NBA Championship and the list did not treat the Atlanta Hawks with a ton of respect. On Tuesday afternoon, the largest sports book in the country published its list of over/under win totals and the Hawks were included at 25.5 victories.
Here is the full list, per SuperBook manager Jeff Sherman:

As you can see, Atlanta is listed with the second-lowest win total on the board, exceeding only that of the Chicago Bulls at a meager 21.5 victories. Other contenders at the bottom of the list are the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets, all listed with 28.5-win projections. In addition to the win total, the Hawks are listed as a 14-to-1 long shot to make the playoffs, further illustrating public perception of the team.
It does not come as a shock to see the Hawks languishing in this area, if only because the franchise has not generated a lot of national excitement in the midst of the rebuild. It should be noted that even teams with ugly forecasts often see their numbers rise based on fan interest but, given the proximity of Las Vegas to Atlanta, that does not seem exceedingly likely in this case.
Is this number too low? Too high? Approximately right? Let us know in the comments but, for now, the leading bookmaker has weighed in on Mike Budenholzer’s team. Stay tuned.
