Before the 2017 NBA Finals came to an end, at least one offshore sports book released odds for the 2018 NBA Championship. Those numbers essentially projected the Atlanta Hawks as the seventh-worst team in the league, listing the team at 200-1 to claim the Larry O’Brien Trophy.
After the draft, free agency and a myriad of high-profile trades, the Westgate Las Vegas Superbook has adjusted their opening odds to a more current batch. This time around, the Hawks are listed as one of four teams with the longest odds... at 1000-1.
Yes, you are reading that correctly.

It certainly isn’t a surprise to see Atlanta listed with the loftiest odds, if only because the national consensus has not been favorable to the Hawks for the upcoming season. Still, a 1000-to-1 long shot is quite different than the original 200-to-1 odds and it seems likely that an enterprising Hawks fan could be looking to hop aboard a plane to Las Vegas to attempt to take advantage.
In the grand scheme, it isn’t news that the Hawks aren’t expected to seriously compete for the 2018 NBA title but, on this list, Atlanta joins with the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic at the end of the line. Stay tuned.
