Just moments before midnight on the east coast, word broke that the Phoenix Suns were preparing for a big-time run at Paul Millsap in free agency. Now, the Atlanta Hawks All-Star power forward is reportedly weighing at least three additional options, headlined by the notion that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets could be “frontrunners” to sign him.
Source close to free agent Paul Millsap says Denver and Minnesota have emerged as frontrunners. Sacramento and Phoenix still in the mix.

This is not the first time that the Denver Nuggets have been rumored with regard to Millsap but the inclusion of the Minnesota Timberwolves is particularly interesting. The Wolves recently added Jimmy Butler to the mix and, as of Friday evening, had flipped point guard Ricky Rubio for a first round pick presumably to pave the way for a new addition in the backcourt.
Both Denver and Minnesota could be appealing for Millsap based on their current rosters combined with the salary cap space to sign him. Now, the pursuits of both teams will be broken down by financial terms and, ultimately, Millsap could be choosing the situation that he believes is best to help him win in the near term.
Stay tuned.
