There has been a late surge when it comes to Bam Adebayo’s draft stock and Sports Illustrated just put forth another example. The Atlanta Hawks, who could certainly use a big man for the future, are linked to Adebayo in the publication’s final mock draft with the No. 19 overall pick.

Bam spent most of the college basketball season as a fixture in first-round projections, but a rough tournament saw him slip. He's been surging back up various mocks in recent weeks. His shooting is what's caught teams off guard—for example, there's more skill on display in this DraftExpress video than we saw in four months at Kentucky. The Hawks are staring down Paul Millsap's free agency and they just traded Dwight Howard; a big man makes sense. And while Adebayo was a fringe first rounder when he was seen strictly as a rim runner, the possibility of perimeter skills might make him too hard to pass up here.

Buzz around Adebayo’s “perimeter skills” has been mounting and it is entirely possible that they have been on display. Still, it is important to note that there wasn’t a ton of that on film at Kentucky and it would be projection toward the future.

Adebayo is definitely a physical presence, though, standing 6’10 with a 7’3 wingspan and a chiseled frame. Defensively, he profiles as a player that can be more switchable than most prospects occupying the center position and that is quite useful. On the offense end, Adebayo has the shooting stroke to be a potential weapon and his upside is quite real.

Mock drafts will be coming fast and furious but a lot of people would like it if the Atlanta Hawks ended up with Bam Adebayo. Stay tuned.
